Well, my Splash Wheaten Malay Rooster just kicked the bucket a few minutes ago. Gonna preform a necropsy in a bit. He's purple, so likely a heart attack. Could possibly be that he was still dealing with sepsis.

Necropsy done. Should've had my phone on me for pictures. Saw something that I'd never think I'd see in a chicken. He had congestive heart failure. His heart was swollen with fluids, his abdomen had some as well. Liver was fine, as well as the other organs.

Yeah, it is. But I could put a pullet in his place once I start hatching this year.

Knowing his defects you wouldn't want him in a breeding program either.

Well, hard knowing if it were actually genetics, or some other issue. Malays are actually susceptible to heart problems along with other Giant Chicken breeds. I wonder if there were a good way too help reduce, or eliminate the heart problems in them.

Meat Chickens like Cornish X it's seen more often due to their body mass, & growth rate.

Let all the Malays out for Free Ranging. For most it's the first time. My Younger Splash Cinnamon Laced, Malay cockerel is a runner, so he's gonna sit out a couple times.
