Pea Eggs Scheduled to Hatch?

FBC - I've built my own in the past, and used it up till last season. It was big enough to hold 128 pea eggs, and constructed out of fibreglass coated (both sides) plywood and inexpensive incubator parts from various brands and models. It did work well (often got ~90% hatch rate) but temp control was a bit of a problem with fluctuating room temps, so I often had to keep it in the basement. I'm going to be rebuilding it into a hatcher later on in the season, but will be built to the size of my new GQF Sportsman. I think I'm going to use thick plexiglass for the main body construction, since everything is held together with glue and galvanized angle iron.

Arbor,,I purchased a used Humidaire that has 3 egg racks, and you must hand turn the entire incubator. It pivots in the middle with a lock for each direction of travel. I'm still going to make a hatcher before things gets too hectic here with hatching.I have bought almost everything from a company called Zoo Med.I bought their automatic humidity sensor-controller and temp sensor- controller all in one. I also bought what they call a Terrarium fogger to be used for humidity.I plan to make a 3/4" think plywood box that measure 2'wide by 4' long and having 2 trays.Top tray eggs will be placed in before pip,and then moved to the bottom "compartmentized" lower tray. When you hatch Opal,BSSP,Midnight,Purple, and some IB Black shoulders,if not seperated during hatch it can be impossible to know which chick comes from which egg since they are all yellow.
The two trays will only be about 24"x36" with the remaining 12"x24" space used to house the fogger and control panel.-electronics,ect. I want a glass top with a light on the inside as well. Both drawers will pull out like a dresser. I have everything bought sitting here in a box, including the 3/4" plywood needed but i need at least 2 full days to build it and then 3-4 days to set and check it to make sure all works right.I made a fantastic trade to Bigcreekpoultry which included my Brinsea 190 Ove Easy so now i have to get on this.I'm not a woodworker-cabinet maker at all but am pretty mean with a drill and drywall screws and Elmers wood glue.

I hear ya! If I get the chance to find some pics of my homemade, I'll post them. We made it similar to the GQF cabinets, only not as deep. It had a plexiglass window (well most of the door anyways) in the door, and a fluorescent light inside to see well. I'm thinking of installing one in the GQF too, as it was so handy and it beat shinin' a flashlight in there all the time. I've got 6 hens in 4 breeding pens, and all are colour splits, meaning most will hatch out as IB or IB BS. I too need the compartments to keep everything separate, or I'll lose my mind. Im also building some tower brooders (four separate brooders stacked on top of eachother, all on wheels so I can move them around if I have to. Unfortunately this won't happen till June, but I'm hoping to have them ready for the first hatch. We've just started to get some eggs in the last week or so, but I won't be able to set any till next week.

I am looking for someone from South Carolina who is interested in black shoulder peafowl. I have 2 a four mo. Old ( i think is a female) and a three mo. Old ( is beginning to color on back and neck so may be a male) ready for a new home. These are pictured above. Feet have never touched the ground and are very healthy. I would like to sell these so I can buy 2 females from a different bloodline or trade these for females. Please contact me if interested.

Can someone tell me how long my peahen is going to sit on her eggs? She went flat and hasn't moved off her nest since the 4th of july and also how long are pea eggs in the bator?please

Are you home in the daytime all the time?
My peahens get off the nest every 4 to 8 days and it is for a very breef time like 10 to 15 minutes, many times i don't even see them eat at all.
She should set 25 to 30 days before they hatch.

I did have one hen that was sitting on a couple eggs i left her and when i found them to be bad at hatch time i removed them, she still sat that nest for 3 more days with nothing in it so i took the nest apart to get her to leave it.

Some of my chicken hens are like that, and the turkey that hatched peachicks last year lost *tons* of weight because she rarely got off the nest. Can't comment on peahens, 'cause none of mine have been allowed to go broody this year, I keep taking their eggs.

Well, I put a lot of posts of my 3 birds I raised last Summer on here. Here's an update. I thought for sure that my all white was a female but she turned out to be a he and I had to sell him. Shadow couldn't have found a better home. He went "to join the circus".

Actually it's the ONLY performing peacock act in the country and I was so happy when I heard of his future in the show business. Coming soon to a zoo near you! Here's a pic of my 3 boys all grown up.

And here is the link to the video of what he will be doing soon!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Summer
