A few weeks ago I notice my almost 3 year old peacock limping. He free ranges so I planned to check on him later that evening when I would be able to catch him. All I could tell was he had a small scrape on his "hock" area and seeing Peas heal quickly I was not too concerned. By the next day he was limping worse and that evening he did not go back to the coop to roost. I picked him up, cleaned up his leg and applied triple antibiotic ointment. By the next day I noticed he could not stand. I took him to a regular vet and he prescribed Baytril which I gave him for 3 days.

He was still not better after those three days plus had developed 2 pressure sores on both his legs. So I took him to an exotic animal vet. Who stated that he was paralyzed in his legs. (I have a hard time believing this as he can kick his legs when I'm holding him and changing his dressings on his legs). Without much talking or consideration he said I should just put him down. I told the vet that I would like to try some things first before just giving up on him. He than gave me a weeks supply of Baytril and a steroid. I also received dressing supplies for his legs.

Yesterday was a week since seeing the exotic animal vet and the pea is still eating drinking but can not stand up. He can fly. I have also added giving him selenium and poultry Nutri-Drench as well. He does live with chickens and ducks but is wormed on a schedule and his droppings are normal. It has been very wet and mucky here and I have considered botulism poisoning. But I do not know how long it takes to recover from that or if there is any specific treatment I should be doing. And it could very well not be that. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions what he has or what I should do? I'm getting quite upset about it and discouraged.

No he does not. That’s why the vet said I should put him down. Also those pics are a little old. The wounds have closed up more.
