PEACOCKS DROPPING TAIL FEATHERS

My cousin in Bloomington Illinois owns a bird feed-bird orientated store that sells everything dealing with birds. My daughter is making a field day trip to ISU tomorrow so she is delivering a box full of Bronze and Opal train-tail feathers to see if my cousin can sell them.Cousin says people uses them for playing with cats,,she thinks she can sell as many as I can save,,we're splitting all sales 50/50,she decides the price. I told her blues and whites were coming later,as the bronze and opal b/s are the only 2 males who's trains are long and worth keeping.Taupe and Cameo's was not very long this year so not even bothering with theirs.

Well, my boys butts are about nekked!

Jack blew his out in about 4 days. Really pretty feathers. I am taking a handful over to a friend's house and trade her some feathers for a few gallons of figs. Yum!

I advertise some for sale or have some sitting in a jar when people come to the farm and they will ask about them and I tell them they are for sale.

If I see something I want from someone I ask if they would like to barter and I also go to swaps or poultry sales locally (not auctions) and take some.

I like that idea of trading. I posted mine on Craigslist and someone wants to buy them. They are getting married and their theme is peacock. I never heard of that. I will try your idea about bartering. Everyone wants a peacock feather for FREE but no one wants to buy them. Go figure. :/

How many feathers do you have and how many are you trading for a few gallons of figs. That will give me an idea of where to start.

Good idea! :thumbsup

I personally picked the figs and for a gallon I gave her 6 eye feathers in Bronze, purple and white, 4 of the very long butterfly(?) tipped feathers and 2 sword feathers. I sell my feathers for $5 each on eye feathers in VGC and on down in price depending on condition and color. Most folks do not care for the Bronze but when I put them with a back ground and mix in some whites they are more outstanding so I try to display them attractively. I am not very artsy though. :/

I stole your idea and I posted an ad to barter my pea feathers for canned preserves, jellies or whatever they had. I got a few replies. One lady wanted to barter for 2 jars of black eye peas and a jar of purple hull peas. Too bad that I wasn't interested in that offer. :/

But hey! Great way to get the word out on what you need. I have a customer that makes jellies and jams and I barter duck and chicken eggs for them. We eat a lot of jellies and jam in this house! Beans and peas would be fine for me, too but only in desperate times. LOL
Our community around here has started doing a lot of bartering. It is so much better when the economy is this bad. We haven't any cash so we trade. I barter with the man that bush hogs my farm and plows my garden. I barter for goats milk soap. Whatever someone has that I want but haven't any cash for I see if I can trade or barter for it. Most people are up for that.
Good luck in your search for jellies and jams!!!!

LOL @ beans and peas in desperate time. I thought the same thing when i read her email.

Will see if anyone with some delicious jellies contacts me.

I certainly hope so. Bartering to us is so much better, especially in farming country like this. I am terrible in the kitchen so I can't make a whole lot.

That looks good compared to my boys. I should have taken more photos but they seemed quite embarrassed!

Jack with his leavings....

And Velocity with his train wreck.....
