Thank you. We moved to this house a few years back, and the property here is all hills, and ravines. I was forced therefore, to attach the pen/Aviary(aviary sounds so much nicer) against the back of the house! We were able to use a man-door in the garage and build the hen house from/out it- which is then inside pen. So, spoiled bird lady here, gets to go through her garage to feed, clean, gather eggs, and open/close chicken hatch. snicker snicker...even in the snow and rain, I can do it in my jammies!

. I do however, have to go out side to open and close the pen gate... oh well, I guess I'll survive.

Wow that is a nice set up then! I always thought it would be nice to have a pen close enough that you could look out and watch your birds from the house. All of my birds live two miles away at my Grandma's so I can't even see them from my backyard haha...

It doesn't snow here but it still gets cold so I can definitely see how nice a set up like that would be in the winter!

Are you looking at the roof over the peahen in the picture? That's 1" chain link fencing(as apposed to 2"), covered with a "net" of fake english ivy. I put the ivy up to filter the sun (if we ever get any again)and to also cut back on the snow that makes it through to the main walkway underneath. Both hold up very well. The 1"chain link was my desperate attempt to stave off the heart break of predators. It was expensive, and after going totally ape-doo doo, on the builder who went "a bit" overboard, I will concede it was/is worth it. It also cuts back on the squirrels and song birds that steal the feed.
Is it the fencing that looks like net, Yoda?

Yes I did not enlarge the picture and it look like white netting LOL. That is a beautiful pen, can you come over with your builders and build me a bigger one? LOL

Thanks Yoda, Since your in Conn. You can relate to the same type of weather and predator problems we have in Ohio. Are you getting tons of rain this year? Last night we had a tornado warning, and my male Blue chose to ride it out on the peak of our roof. Worried me to death. Love that bird- If any thing happens to him..... Happily the storm was mild, but we have rain again this morning....Oh goody. FYI chickens can swim. Oh yeah, and those little plastic chicken feeders.....float like little boats (just don't fill em too full-makes them top heavy).
When I send the builder to you, you want me to send some rain, cuz we're good here?

We got 2 Inches last Friday.
6.5 inches on Sunday.
and Now they are calling for 2 to 5 Inches today.

Ughh... I can't believe my little pea chicks haven't gotten sick. Since the day after they hatched, the mother has kept them outside the hen house. I'm waiting for them to develop webbed feet. What do you say we hybridize some Peafowl to some ducks? We can call them ....ready...Pucks!

Another big storm comin... Will it ever stop raining?! I swear, these chicks are gonna have webbed feet pretty soon. Went out to get everyone locked in before the storm came, but Momma Pea already had her peeps under cover. Have to post this. Mom Lucy Back View Front View Tucked in for the night!

WOW!!!! What amazing pics!!! The babies are so beautiful. I love the pics. Those pics belong in a pea book or on a greeting card. Thanks for sharing.

I set the 4 pea eggs last night and I also threw in 14 guinea eggs. And the waiting begins. :/

I moved my Pheseants to a outdoor pen to start to get them ready for there life of freedom, Well as soon as I did that the weather decided to change and I have lost some do to it.So Now I have them back in. I hope this weather clears up soon. And those Pic's are great. You should add them to the show off your peas thread.
