I'm new around here, so I don't know if I have this in the right place, but I was looking for local(ish) peafowl breeders? I wanted to add another hen to my flock (I hatched them last year, and kept just what i realllly hope is a male). Any advice?

Thanks,
Ash

Welcome!!! Where do you live? And we'd love to see pictures of your bird(s):) If you hatched last year and you can't tell if it's a male, we can help you with that too.

Funny story. The neighbor on the other side of the hill said he just found two in his shed and called me. How weird is that? Ill post all three. what are the chances that I get lucky? One looks like a black shoulder, and one looks like a cameo.
Thanks for your help!

what i think is a blackshoulder

the one found in the shed..a cameo?

My cheeky little (hopefully) boy

I agree with the black shoulder.....but how old is yours? I think it's looking like a hen....more pictures would help....well help me that is.
You might want to ask around if someone is missing their peas though....they might be really sad they're gone. And if you return them, maybe they'll have a hen for you:)

The neighbor said that by looking in they shed they have been there for months. I will still look around though. I would be devastated if someone had mine.

My boy is about a year. I hatched him under a silkie when them mom seemed to loose interest in her.

I will put up some more pics. Thanks for your help so far!

You are definitely in the right place! Hi there, where are you located? We are in south central PA, near Gettysburg and Hanover. It really looks to me like your Cheeky little boy is actually a cheeky little girl. The black shoulder also looks like a hen, and the cameo is very hard to tell from that pic, but I'll guess hen also on it. You may end up looking for a boy to add to the flock.

Usually I get a shortage of hens... On everything. Maybe my luck is changing! I went out to local feed stores to see if they knew anyone that had peafowl. I explained that I gained some, so they said they would call me back with a list if names. Maybe I can find who they belong to, but a little voice says maybe not......

my cheeky little.....peafowl?

and the other one

Your cheeky little peafowl doesn't appear to have any of the orangish reddish primary wing feathers that would indicate a male. If all those wing feathers are brown as they appear in the pic, she is def. a hen.

I though for sure it was a boy. He would always run up to me. He escaped once and I lured him back in with a poor attempt at the honk noise they make and a handful if corn. The neighbors thought I was nuts :D
