If a sinus infection is left too long the pus will harden and need to be cut out but I think what you are dealing with is an infection caused by a thorny sticker that got lodged in the cheek. When expressing the pus use one finger or thumb inside the mouth and press with the opposing finger from the outside.

I brought her back in tonight because it had swelled up pretty large. There is/was a kernel in there and I’m still not sure I got it all out but I did the best I could. Should I keep working on it each day until the swelling starts to go down? I don’t want to have to put her through that any more than I have to

Can you ask your vet for preloaded syringes of Tylan 200? You need about five with 1.0ml and give one shot SQ daily for five days. Yes, if there is a lot of face swelling I would press the infection out.

Ok I wasn’t sure if peafowl got a “kernel” like chickens do. It did seem like the pus was harder than say human pus and it looked like there was still more to come out but she was pretty miserable and I had her bleeding so I decided to stop for tonight. I’ll give it another go tomorrow just to be sure I got it all. Thank you!

It looks like a tic May have imbedded if dirt won’t clean off my guess is that it’s some type of insect or tic. But I would try to pull it out then keep the area clean with appropriate meds——this is an observation only

Thank you for your suggestion! I did end up taking her to the vet and it was an infection but unfortunately the vet couldn’t get it all out either so we scheduled for her to have surgery but by the time she had the surgery, the infection had already moved into her bone. Vet packed the area with antibiotic plus gave her an oral antibiotic and gave her an outstanding prognosis, she will just have a lump on her face from now on. She’s doing so well that a week after surgery she started laying eggs again! So now she perfect with a slight imperfection on her face!!
