Peeling hard boiled eggs

You can forget all of these tips INCLUDING waiting until your lovely fresh eggs get old and just steam them. I wasn't a believer and then I gave it a whirl. Easiest pealing on the planet. You are wasting your time and water boiling and adding this and that and waiting this and that amount of time. JUST TRY IT!!!

I have tried the steaming. Didn't work for me. And so far as I've ever found, salt in the water only helps if one cracks when boiling. It helps keep the egg from seeping out too much. Vinegar dissolves the shell. Quail eggs are often boiled in a strong vinegar mix or left to sit in one to just dissolve the whole shell. Not one of the things above have done the trick for me except I haven' had a chance to try letting them cool in the fridge then running hot water on them yet. Or letting them get at least a week old. I see nothing wrong with doing that but for each his or her own I guess.

Just boil the egg until done to your likeing, run cold tap water pover the eggs until cool. Then crack the big end of the egg and take out a small piece of shell to form a hole. Place mouth over the hole and blow as hard as you can. The egg shell will crack all the way around the egg, the membrane will seperate along with the shell and you can easily peel the shell and leave a perfectly smooth boiled egg.

This works but you have to be able to blow really hard.

The best luck I had was with 3+ day old eggs, washing them off under water colder than they were, and boiling as usual. Then I tried steaming them, which worked wonderously well too. Then my daughter tried it.. I hadn't told her to use COLD water to wash the eggs with and she had some trouble as well. So I really think a cold water rinse really helps.

that works.
we use this thing:
http://www.eggstractor.net/
that's basically what it does, and it works great!
there's a little bit of a technique to it, but once you get the feel, it never, never fails. fresh eggs, old eggs, duck, chicken... it's perfect.

it's only limitation is eggs that are too small for the platform. might not do goose eggs either, haven't tried those, but it works on our xxl duck eggs.

Quick, someone feed that eggstractor some oyster shell, it's laying shellless eggs.

Imp- funny how so many different techniques work & don't work for each of us.

I realize that this is a really old thread, but........ I discovered the "baking soda" trick from Pinterest. It works GREAT! My eggs are on the counter, so far, all the time, but that could change, and not sure if it will change the outcome later. They are not quite 2 weeks old, however, I've never done this with FRESH eggs. I cook them over a medium heat (depends, it can take anywhere from 25-35 mins to get a gentle boil going), and I sprinkle baking soda in the water. When they start to boil, I remove them from the heat, and cover on the stove, and set the timer for 15 mins. Then I run cold water over them, and because I'm impatient, I then add ice. I don't set them for any certain amount of time, just when I remember, and the ice is probably gone...... Then I refrigerate them without peeling. They stay in a covered plastic container (to keep in the smell), and we peel them when we eat them! The shell will pretty much SLIDE off!
