How old are your chicks? They usually aren't too interested for the first 48 hours after hatching. Make sure you wiggle your finger in the waterer to get them interested in drinking. I usually introduce the water first. Are you giving them the chick starter? You can always wet it a bit to make it more like a mash or I ground my food to a fine powder for my Bantams because they are soooo tiny when they hatch! As long as your chicks are perky and moving around cheeping, they are healthy. Hope all goes well

Morning all good here. Sitting having a strong coffee then will move latest chick to the brooder.

My first hatched are only starting to eat proper as of yesterday. They some find it hard still but are getting the hang of it :)

Thanks! They were introduced to water first thing. Some drank yesterday but this morning they didnt. And they were getting loud so i thought its time to eat properly - they had food in the brooder but didnt seem to have eaten a lot in there... So... being a high tech genious ;-) i have come up with this feeder:
400

I thought it would be easier for them to eat from the ground so i put some rinsed earth in this baking dish put it in the oven for half hour and when it cooled down sprinkled some feed and chopped nettles on top. Chicks were sooo happy and busy!!

Haha they're right little fluffy bums arnt they lol

I know you'll hardly be thinking this so soon but....

What are you planning on incubating next? Have you ever done ducks :)

Yes they are just adorable

Nicole i dont think i will hatch again. If i need more girls (aiming at 6) then i think i will wait for one of these ones to go broody because that way it is easier to introduce the littlens to the flock. No ducks. Im not allowed to keep farm animals but silkies dont count do they? :p
