Actually, I believe that it's technically another breed that's derived from Hedemora. But there are Hedemora that look like that too, I'm told.

Furthermore, I'm pretty sure THIS is a Hedemora, and it's the most beautiful look on a chicken that I know of:

She's a very unusual looking hen compared to the breeds I normally see on BYC.
I'm assuming the lack of colour provides better camouflage in cold climate conditions.

Swedish summers can get preeetty warm... Upwards of 30°.
Still looking for more info on ability to cope with heat, can't find the original thing I read. I need birds that can cope up to 40c and down to -15c (very rare).
It feels so good to be able to write in Centigrade on this forum that I have to do it again: It can get 30°.
:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau poor Henrick, you obviously have been getting really stressed with years of fareiheit on here :lau:lau:lau:lau:lau
have 10 doors I'm using as the exterior walls kind of like those "build a greenhouse from old windows" sheds one sees on Pinterest.
Ohhhhh I really look forward to seeing that!

I thought maybe my 2nd Marans started laying this week and now I'm sure as there were 2 eggs this morning :ya:ya:ya:ya

Hi and welcome to our thread! I think it was you I was thinking of seeing around but couldn't remember your user name to tag you! Goodness that is cold! What sort of chickens do you have? How many? Look forward to chatting with you.
Hi! I have small flock ( almost a year now) There is 3 faverolle hens, 1 black brahma hen, 1 sulmtaler hen, 1 wild araucana hen, 5 ayam cemani hens and faverolle rooster. I still mourning, week ago we have to put cochin rooster down. He was first in our flock, who went behind the rainbow. Sorry my english, sometimes i have to use google translate. I learned English at school but it was 30 years ago.

I kept my flocks for years in temperatures between 40 and 50C (sometimes higher) in S.A. without losses, but they were mostly cross breeds... Fwiw, giving them a place to stand in water (I used to run a hose in a shady spot in the run), so they can cool their feet down helped a lot. Cold weather.. I have no clue!

Wild Acraucana? I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your Cochin :hugs

You're English is fine!

Glad to meet you!
Those temps are what I reference every time someone here in Ireland complains about their weather:confused:. Absolutely do not miss frozen nose hairs and shoveling snow. Also, now glad I can skip all the posts about coop heating:clap.
Thanks!
We use old oil heater in coop. But there is always some problems, half of our flock is broody now. There is only 5 nestbox and one is available. I tried to break them, but it was waste of time, they got broody again. But our hard weather is very good for us, because then is coming a very warm summer.
