Peeps in Europe!

my 2 pekin pullets are interested in hatching but I think they are too young. one of them keeps a fake egg under her wing and that is not good for hatching. I had a broody who kept eggs under her wings and the result was very few chicks hatched.

have you tried putting the eggs under her? Are they bantam cochins? They seem to go broody all the time!

I yesterday put a rabbit cage (divided in 2) in their coop and made 2 nests. they spent the night in there. if they don't give up I will put a few eggs and see if they will hatch.

some people call them bantam cochin. that is not correct. pekins are true bantams and not related to cochins although they look similar. their heads are totally different from cochins.

Yes, I found that out recently. This lady posted the history of cochins and bantam cochins. That was just so intrresting!!
I wish I had room for some bantams. They are awfully cute!!

Today was the day!!!
116 eggs went into the incubator... 25 of which were white Sulmtaler eggs.

Gosh, where do you get all those eggs from? I've always wondered about that.
All but the 25 white Sulmtaler eggs are from my chickens. I collect for 2 weeks (or more if I don't get enough from a group)... this time 2.5 weeks. They still hatch. Not as many as when they are fresh, but they hatch. And that is fine with me.
I have 10 Sulmtaler hens providing eggs for me. No magic! I swear! :D :D

my yellow group gives me between 16 and 20 eggs per week. I have lots of hope for them... they are the best hens and the best layers.

I culled three Cockerals this weekend, one was handicapped. Had wry tail and was blind in one eye, and had a problem eating, because he couldn't judge the distance at which he should peck. So it was out of mercy, that I sent him on. The other two were excess and I'd rather eat them while they are still tender and not yet fullly mature.

Good decision!!! Sometimes you got to do it!

Gosh 2 1/2 weeks! Like I am trying desperately to get enough in 7 days so it makes sense to put them all in, and just hope for the best. I was watching the Dinousaur channel on youtube and he talks about his rare chicken breed and to go for as many chicks as you can get, so you can find the best traits in a small few and then try to improve your overall chicken breed.
