I hope you have a lovely birthday PouleChick :ya
Thank you - it is massively frosty and gorgeous and sunny out there AND my 4 year old didn't cry when I left him at nursery (this is exciting after 2 years of crying every morning!!) so a great start so far! Hubby and I going to head out for a nice child free lunch!

happy birthday and enjoy your child free lunch!

Nothing to report, sorry. Was hacked overnight and have spent the day trying to recover and lock down all my online accounts. The curse of being connected to the world. Wish I could just walk away from the internet but it is such an easy way to learn and connect with those beyond my locality, sigh.
That's nuts! Sorry to hear you had to deal with this :hugs

Thanks you guys! I've just had a lovely nanny nap after a fab lunch out. We went to our local 'Routier' - traditional restaurants serving the truckers - you always get good portions and generally very good food at a great price. This one is in a particularly nice village with a lovely setting - kind of a 'posh' one I'm guessing - although the truckers sit in one area that is much plainer and the others sit out back with lovely views of the terrace garden - I said to hubby maybe they get a different price! It is a 4 course set menu with wine included (for the grand sum of €13,50 :celebrate)! We had a hot soup (which I needed i was so cold!), then the entrée which is always a buffet of cold meats, pates, salads, boiled eggs etc. Then for main we had the 'plat du jour' which was soooo good - duck breast, roasted endives (not that keen on them but ate them anyway as I was a good girl!), and the most incredible pomme dauphinoise (lots of cream and garlic!). This was all served with unlimited refills of gorgeous crusty bread. Wonderful meal but really needed the nanny nap as never usually drink any wine in the day or eat that much at any time :lau

Desert choices all sounded yum but I chose the chocolate cake:

and hubby had the pear and apple tart.

Oh you must - it is fabulous! I'll let you know when our gite is ready - might even do a BYC discount LOL ;)! Sadly many / most of the restaurants and bistros 20 years ago all had homemade amazing local food. Sadly now you need to be a bit more discerning as some of them just use frozen chips and mass produced food. The place we went do all thier food home made, the potatoes they serve with the steaks are amazing - sauteed in duck fat!
Wishing you the very happiest of birthdays!
Thank you!
