So sorry to read about your hen. I have one just like her. Before, she chased the other two away until she got her fill. I now move her into an enclosure and feed her there and the other two out in the run.
WOW! 15 coops! Chicken math take over?

chicken math changed my life. I sold a house, bought land and I am going to make a small farm.

I'm a little worried that it grows too long and chokes the chickens. I have heard that long grass could do that. So I think I'll start with aprox. 5cm and go from there.

ima beans could give eggs a strange flavor

because they have an awful flavour, i find them really yucky, so my chickens aren't getting them...lol

Mung beans, adzuki, chickpeas, kidney beans and dried peas would also work. With the grains I can only source oats and wheat whole, where I buy my chicken feed at Raiffeisen-Markt, but in REWE they sell amaranth and barley and all sorts of "Musli" makers from a mill as whole grains. Good that the Germans are into milling their Musli fresh, eh? Bird seed is also just millet, so I could try that as well!! At the moment I am fermenting red rice to get rid of it.

After my trip to the UK , i'll start fermenting properly again, so about the beginning of October.

I am not sure about bean sprouts but dry beans are toxic to chickens. lentils are ok, even dry.

It has all kinds of different seeds... including radishes, canary seeds, gras seeds, oat, hemp, spinach and lots more..

What do you guys think of growing amaranth for the chickens?

That is great information. I didn't want to grow a whole lot of amaranth...really just as a treat. So this sounds perfect. And it's pretty to look at as well!!! I guess I'll try that next year.

You'll have plenty, that stuff spreads and spreads all over the place.
