Hello! I got redirected here so a quick intro. Chicken mama (since 7 years) from the Netherlands; got two chickens in our smallish backyard. Since this spring we've been adoptive parents of two goslings, that eventually need to move

Hi @Leraja, Welcome to this thread. Hope you find all the answers or if you don’t, post them here or in the appropriate thread on BYC.

What kind of chickens do you have? Pictures?

I must admit taking pics of the chickens has taken a back seat since the goslings arrived, so I have no recent ones on my phone *grin* They're eh... normal chickens? Not a specific breed. We tend to get rescue chickens from people around us.

One is a common 'bruine legkip' (not sure what the breed would be in English) that looks pretty much exactly like this:

The other is I think a crossbreed of a legkip and a bantam breed, since she's a lot smaller, has quite a slender built and is nicely orangy red all over. I haven't been able to find out which breed she'd be, though.

In the past we've had a silkie cockerell (also a rescue so not sure of his exact age, but he was old and cool. Died last winter) and a number of bantam (dubbelgezoomde) barnevelders. The latter are beautiful chickens, but all of them have died on us, mostly from Marek's They don't seem to be a very sturdy breed, at least not the ones we've had. The rescues we have now are a lot more resilient so far.

Hi @Leraja, great you found us and and our Peeps in Europe group. I love that you rescue chickens. I had never heard you could, when I decided to become a chicken keeper. Then you find all these forums for chickens and poultry keepers...and you enter the twilight zone... I started with five hens and one Rooster and my now my flock is double that. I need to sort out who can stay and who must go.

Hahah, it more or less just happens to us as well - people know we're soft-hearted so they give us chickens that they find (every now and then there's runaway chickens in our town etc) or that don't get along with a flock, etc. In some cases we've passed them on, too - we really don't have enough space to have more than 3/4 chickens in our backyard, unfortunately...

Hello to all newcommers.
Ive eaten my first dish out off the garden we have lattice almost hole year round, but these were the first peas with the first garlic and some herbs had to tie the tomatoes and the paprika's and planted the last veggies for now becouse it finely is raining. This weekend I will try and finish the coop. The chicks are now 15 days and growing quickly. What do you juse for recognition bands? My blond chicks look identical.

Cute little chicks!!! They grow so fast!!!

I use rings for wings for my rings... I order them directly in Belgium. They are like an elastic. So even when they get a little tight it doesn't hurt them... They are easy to put on and take off.

Do you know if it will work wit heavy featered feet? Looks lik a task but I rally like that they are like a rubber band

That is a good question... I will ask someone who has chickens with feathered feet what he is using...

The last example in the video shows the rubber is put on a chick with feathered feet.
