So my January hatch produced 2 pullets and 2 cockerals. I am getting better at sexing my Sussex now. Observing them closely growing helps. My males will start the tail feathers at a 45° angle the females will start them straight out.

I have moved them to the coop, now that the run is no longer so muddy. So my house is finally chicken free.

Only two of the shipped eggs had rolling air cells, but I've put them in anyway. See if they stabilize and show growth. Have to candle them, before i can see what is going on with the other air cells. Fingers crossed, they are good.

is it rooster's year, lol. 5 cockerels and 3 pullets if dots on the head mean boys. another thing is that solid colour chicks (girls) have black beaks as well, probably dark feet but their legs are feathered so I cannot se the colour.

The chicks are hatching!! A lot of them in the incubator. The only bad thing about this incubator is.... you can't really see how many... especially with the tray for different groups. It's nice that they stay where they belong and you can tell which group/parents they come from... but you just can't count or see enough.
I will take the chicks out tomorrow morning and they get their Marek's vaccine.
But!!!! 76 chicks went into the setting incubator! I do hope my yellow group has a better fertilization this time around.

Ok we've got 16 out of 24 developing on day seven. 2 had blood rings, the others, including the 2 with detatched air cells, were clears.

well... that ain't bad for shipped eggs!

63 chicks made it... It would have been a great quota if I would have had to take out those 30 eggs because they were not fertilized. And while we were sitting in the car waiting on the Marek shots... I noticed one littlel chick who wasn't doing well. I rubbed it for a bid... made sure it was extra warm. When it started jerking I culled it. I did not want to prolong it's suffering.
So... 62 chicks it is.

OMG!!! How dumb can I be??!!!
I actually just have 54 chicks.... I forgot to substact the ones I took out with the last candeling right before lockdown....
