Peeps in Europe!
Hi fellows, this is my hen Sante, she's an OE and she was born here from a broody hen in April 2021.
She's almost 2 years old and she never molted. This winter she stopped laying, but she didn't molt. Now she's laying again, so I suppose I shouldn't expect her to molt soon.
Her sister has molted twice since they were born and looks great now. I don't care if she looks bad, but what could cause not molting? Has this ever happened to you? Can I help her in some way?

Hmm this is something that happens with ISA browns quite often, though they never stop laying. Until they are finished with laying altogether, or they take a very large break from laying due to health reasons, they never seem to molt, so it's something you usually have to wait out. It might also be that something in her environment is off and she doesn't want to start molting? That would mean she wouldn't lay either, so I'm not sure on that one
OMG @chickengr I just noticed you're also in Greece! Yeah, snow was pretty terrible for some parts of Greece, I don't know exactly where you live, but hope you and your poultry are well. Where I am it was mostly the cold that got me, snow melted in less than a week here. This might be a lot to ask of you, but since you seem to have a lot of poultry, and quite rare breeds might I add, could you please tell me where you found your chickens? Hope things get even better for you soon, spring is coming and soon so will summer, aka the best time to be in Greece!
Chickens often molt unnoticeable. They loose their feather over a long period.
I thought Isa browns molt too after 1,5- 2 years in normal circumstances.
Wow, thats sounds pretty basic. Or do you have solar panels and a battery to be able to use a mobile / laptop, have some light in the evenings and to be connected to the world?
Do you actually live 24/7 in this house?
I don't think this is the case, all her feathers are broken, she doesn't have a single one in a good shape.
What is her diet? Is there any chance she has gotten into a fight?
All my hens eat the same: grain, some layer feed for extra protein, they all have access to grit and they free range all day long eating all kind of grass and worms (sometimes even little snakes!). They never fight: they have a lot of space and this one is born here from a broody hen, her mother introduced her chicks to the flock and everything went smooth.
I don't know, maybe she is sick or something: all the other hens look great so I don't think that diet could be the problem.

Yeah, something is definitely up with her, maybe try and feed her more protein?
That could be an idea. Maybe she has some problem assimilating proteins and she needs more!
