Hi everyone

My Pekin chicken started laying about 6 weeks ago. We get about 6 eggs every week so far, today she laid 2 eggs, one of which is covered in blood. She seemed to be acting normal today and had a bit of dried blood around her vent feathers. But has now gone back into the nesting box and looks like she may be laying again! She was dewormed 3 weeks ago.

Is this normal? Should I be worried? (even though I already am!)

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Picture of the "bloody" egg ... It's "normal" at time for newbies to have blood smeared on the egg. Have you checked her vent that there's no injury? Laying 2 eggs a day, sometimes but never heard of 3x. It's possible she's wanting to go broody if she's back in the nest box. Do you have a Roo?

Are you 100 percent sure she laid 2 eggs? If so that will definitely be the reason for the blood. One egg is enough strain imagine 2! Bless her. Could she possibly broody? My girls will lay and go back to the nest when they are trying to go broody. Does she have access to calcium of some sort?
