Pekin Duck Club!

Please help, have 6 pekin ducks and 2 are males.one of the females is the runt, lately one of the male ducks won't leave her alone and try to mate with her over and over, he pulled her hair off a little on back of neck, looks little raw is there anything I can put on that to prevent any nats, or flys
Could you put Vaseline on it to keep the bugs out? I put it on my dogs ears when they get scraped to keep the flies off.

Vet wrap makes a great bandage and is available at most pet stores, just make sure not to wrap it too tight and be careful if the duck goes to water as the vet wrap may shrink. I would first clean the area with water and then use an antiseptic such as Povidone Iodine or hydrogen peroxid then Neosporin and the Vet wrap.
I would separate the ducks for a while if at all possible and when she is put back, monitor them. If it persists you may need to rehome her.

Or you could rehome the offending male duck. I've been told that 1 Pekin Drake can handle up to 12 hens! 2 Drakes may be way too much for your hens.

Hey @dan26552
Congratulations how many have hatched and how is everyone doing?

Well the first died last night :( Not sure why ( might have had two crested parents or possibly just hatched too early) but on a happy note there are now three babies in the nest, one hatched this morning and the other two just hatched (or they're still drying anyway) But other than the first everyone seems to be doing fine.

Sorry you lost one, lets hope the other 3 will do well. be sure to keep us updated on how everyone is doing.

Are they all crested? you know they can have some neurological issues because of it? I hope they won't, but I would get them started on a good poultry vitamin and also some Nutritional yeast as soon as they begin to eat and drink. All ducklings[water fowl] need to be on Nutritional yeast 1 Tab per cup of feed or Niacin 150mgs daily till 10-12 weeks old. especially if they are eating chick starter.

That is one adorable duckling.

As far as I can tell they are, we have 3 crested males and one non crested so that doesn't surprise me. Yes I do but that's usually if both parents are crested, it's like araucanas. We gave their parents niacin, I guess if have some left we'll give them that, if not i guess we'll get some.

Yes it is.
