Pekin Duck Club!

1000

Look what I picked up at the post office yesterday, :D 11 little Jumbo Pekin's from Metzer Farms. Straight run unsexed. 1/2 of them have pink bills and 1/2 an orange bills, don't know if that has anything to do with sex. Know they eventually all turn orange.

They are wonderful! Omg! Too cute! Congratulations!

Please help, have 6 pekin ducks and 2 are males.one of the females is the runt, lately one of the male ducks won't leave her alone and try to mate with her over and over, he pulled her hair off a little on back of neck, looks little raw is there anything I can put on that to prevent any nats, or flys

I'very been lurking the BYC board threads for quite some time now, but this is the first time I have come across this thread! Live it! Last year I got a some ducks just for the novelty of having them. I ended up with 3 Pekin hens and a Drake (Donald) and 2 Rouen hens and 2 Drakes (1 got named Daffy) as it was, the 3 Pekin hens, and the Drake along with the 2 Rouen hens and 1 of the Drakes were stolen last summer/fall along with 8 laying hens! They did this over a couple visits when I was making a daily drive 60 miles away for a medical procedure for a couple months, they figured out my schedule. How do I know they were stolen and not a loss to a predator? Never a carcass and no feathers plus, one day I didn't go and I caught them coming for more and they were back the next day. They have not been back since. Anyway, This year, I have 10 Pekin (6 hens, 4 Drakes)and 8 Rouen (4 and 4). Will be cutting back to only Pekin ducks as I get more eggs from the Pekins! Yes, I eat the eggs and I eat the culls, as in shortly a couple of the Drakes will be going to freezer camp along with the Roeuns. Everyone has a job on this farm, it's either eggs, breeding, or meat with the poultry. With the animals it's either breeding or meat.
I love my Pekins, they are a riot to watch, especially in the pool. I have seen times when there is no room for a duck to move because of overcrowding in the pool.

I would really love to hatch out some of the duck eggs, but at this point have no incubator, have as of yet, not had a duck go broody and just as soon as I started thinking about it the one Buff Orphington that has gone broody last summer and this, just decided she was done being broody!
I have been looking at the DIY incubators as of yet, but just haven't pulled the trigger on that one yet. Not sure I can commit to getting the eggs turned 4-5 times a day as I am gone too much right now and I cannot commit the money for a store bought incubator or a store bought egg turner for a DIY incubator. I think now would be a perfect time to start new layers for next year, and cured duck products (bacon and what not) for the new year from the new Drakes!

I don't know Patty. Try posting your own new thread and more people will see it...especially the more experienced.

I would say separate her for awhile until she heals up.
