Pekin Duck Club!

Update - we have been soaking, iodizing and antibiotic twice a day. Today plug type sore came off. Foot is not as swollen she still favors it but seems better. After doing some addition research found it sounds a lot like Bumble foot. See link http://urbanhomestead.org/journal/2007/09/09/157/

Thank you Miss Lydia for the sound advise!
Great news.. great work on your part!! keep up treatment till completely healed.

what can I use safely to help keep their pin cleaner? They are inside now in a large dog pen, and the poo can really be a mess...

So far no issues with the pine chips here either, i also give them supplements. It seems like they have stopped nibbling on it now , think they realized its not food! lol

Welcome!

I used old towels. I have considered since then if I brood again, old towels over shavings, that way the towel can be lifted up, shaken out over the garden, and washed, and the shavings underneath may last longer, especially in combination with good water management.

Have I share these with you?

Thanks so much ! The towel sounds great ! I have their water in a shallow pan for now and they seem to do well; they must be very neat eater/drinkers, from what i have heard from others, but as they get bigger I am guessing I will have to do something else!

Some1 else suggested using an old roasting/broiler pan, the 1 with the grill on top! I'll be using that w/ dog food/ water bowls. The 1s w/ the reservoir :). Put the bowls on top of the grill on the pan!!!

OMG i feel so bad if i ever lost mine i would die too. what happened?
Not sure. What could go over a 8 foot enclosure and take 3 large Pekins and one Rouen? I have not been in their night enclosure yet but DH said he saw large scratches. I am still in shock, crying. I have one lone Khaki Campbell drake walking around in my back yard calling for his buddies. I am looking to rehome him as he is all by himself now. Not for food please.
