Pekin Duck Club!

My ducks waste a lot of water from the poultry waterer, but I always check to see if it's full a few times a day. Soon, I'll be rigging up the wire/tub contraption to catch the extra water! So far, it's much better than a pan full of water. They at least can't bathe or poop in it. Also, I'm now picking them up to move them with my gardening gloves! Boy does that make a difference with those little sharp feet.

Perfect plan!! Their little webs are sharp.

I'm just learning about my fluffy/feathered babies. I did about a weeks worth of reading before I got them. This site has been a wonderful resource and the people are so nice on here! I love getting to see all their cute ducks and hear stories about their cute personalities. By the way... Nothing you read can prepare you for how messy these precious little webbed footed wonders are! Good thing they are just so cute!
Eeeeee, you are speaking my language, "precious little webbed footed wonders are! Good thing they are just so cute!" You read my mind.

I have one of these: http://www.murdochs.com/shop/free-range-large-flock-easy-fill-poultry-drinker It's huge (6 gallons), and the water doesn't back-flush into the reservoir, so it stays clean. They have a pool to wash their faces in, but this gives them super clean water all the time. It fills from the top, so you don't have to pick it up if you have a hose. They make smaller versions, too.
I bought the 3.5 gallon version. My ducks go back & forth between this & their pool.

I need a bit of advice. One of my ducks injured a blood feather about a week ago. It was doing fine and healing until today. I came home to a bloody wing again. I'm thinking one of the chickens may have pecked it. That's the only thing I could think. So I'm wanting to separate them. I have a dog pen with a dog igloo she and my other duck can stay in until it's healed. However, it's supposed to get down to about 47 degrees tonight. They're about 5 weeks old and have quite a bit of adult feathers, but still some baby fuzz. Do you think if I put some pine shavings in the igloo they'll be ok? Thanks!
