Charlotte Webber &Cookie 3 weeks today! Such dense down on them now and feathers!! Andddddd Webber started QUACKING!! It's a def honk & quack now! She's the food hog and the leader of the pack so it's fitting she's the first to start making her voice heard lol

They also started "zooming" outside of the water haha so they dart around or play tag w each other now . I got them jingling cat balls for thier brooder and they have fun w them!! Hahaha

Forgot to post a new pic of my Po. Po is my only pure pekin, Shifu is a Rouen / Pekin mix. The 3 older babies have Shifu for a dad and 2 of them have Po as the mom. 1 of them has a mallard as the mom.

Welcome! You have so many cute duckies [/URL] Do you think I qualify? I have JUMBO Pekin ducklings (2 @ 20 days old, 4 @ 13 days old), as well as Rouen ducklings (2 @ 20 days old, 4 @ 13 days old). My oldest Jumbo Pekins are now getting their white feathers in... and they ALL are characters, but the Jumbo Pekins definitely have more personality than the Rouens, IMO. I had to take two large totes and cut a hole in the side of both of them, and then taped them together through the window I created, to keep their bedding side dry, and their food and water side litter-free. It has been a week now, and they are much happier with the new configuration. Anyways, I had 1 of the older Jumbo Pekins and 1 of the older Rouens in the bedding side, when their brooder mates were still in the food and water side, and they were zooming around in circles, chasing each other, and having a good ole time! These pics were taken this morning... they were all getting their very first bath/swimming opportunity, and they were having a ball! Then after everyone dried off, I brought 1 of the older Jumbo Pekins in for a photo shoot, and it was running around, checking everything out in the living room. So, this is a 20-day old Jumbo Pekin... don't know if it's drake or hen, yet... and no, NONE of my ducks have names yet... I have a tendency to wait until I can sex them, and then watch their personalities, before I name them. The last pic is of the 4 oldest, before their new mates arrived, at 10 days old. I also have 17 chicks, 23 days old, but they're in a separate brooder... Rhode Island Reds, Black Australorp, and White Jersey Giants... plus 1 Golden Laced Wyandotte that I am pretty sure is a cockerel :( . I had ordered a Rhode Island Red rooster, and got him in, and now it looks like I have 2 roosters! I also ordered a Black Australorp rooster that will arrive a week from tomorrow, so I don't know what I'm going to do! My hubby wants to keep the Golden Laced Wyandotte... maybe order some hens to go with him, to keep some lines pure. We'll see. I will also be getting some Dark Cornish chicks and 9 Cornish X Rock chicks, along with a replacement of 1 of the Black Australorps and 1 of the White Jersey Giants, whom I lost the 2nd night I had them from the hatchery. They ALL came from the same hatchery (ducks and chicks)... Murray McMurray, out of Iowa. I'm pleased with the service I've gotten from them!

LOL, we were only supposed to have 4 of each breed! But ended up with 6 of each... we are enjoying all of them, especially me! My hubby used to raise birds before (chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys), and he insisted on ordering these ducks. I'm glad he did, because I'm getting the biggest kick out of them. He hears me laughing at them all the time. Laughter is the best medicine. We were talking last night, because of an article I read about depression being on the rise in the US... I know the perfect prescription... get some ducks and raise them! They make you laugh so hard, and the consensus is... 15 minutes of good laughter a day increases the seratonin and dopamine levels naturally in the brain... a great remedy!

I've noticed a few questions about bedding and what is good to use and what is not. Right now I do 1-2 loads of laundry per day to get Quack-Quack's bedding and what not clean. He/She sleeps in a large canvas dog kennel in the bedroom with us and I am using blankets and sheets for bedding. Is there anything that works better? What about cloth incontinence pads, like the ones used in nursing homes? The moisture seems to soak through the folded blnaket and there's an airing out I have to go through every day. I've also been wondering if Lysol spray used in the kennel when Quack-Quack will NOT be using it for a while be safe? Although I take a damp cloth to the kennel I was thinking Lysol would still be nice if I can use it.
We used towels for the first couple of days but within a week or so switched to straw. They poop entirely too much and I was not going to do that much washing. When they first touched foot to straw they went wild chirping and digging through it. We still have to change it every day but it is a lot better than washing 5 ba-jillion loads of wash. Ours are starting to spend more days outside with the rest of our flock and will soon be moving into their new home. As to cleaners/disinfectants...I am not sure about the Lysol. I don't know if it leaves a residue that could come off when it gets wet or not. After scrubbing the crate just sitting the container in the sun helps to disinfect it. If you want a good cleaner you could try method. Target here carries it....it's an animal safe natural cleaner. We have used it for years in and around all our critters.

I used large pine shavings with papertowels(shop towels usually) over the top. then I just changed out the papertowels every couple hours. I also used puppypads but they were about the same as papertowels. I wouldn,t use lysol just because they seem to put their mouths on everything and the fumes might not be good. I cleaned with warm soapy water and rinsed WELL. They are so messy when they're little it's crazy. Good luck :)
