Pekin Duck Club!

@runsb. I have a 17 month old, and my duckies are now 9 weeks old. They are inside too, when their outside, we are outside, Ryleigh, my daughter, tries to go in their pool, sit in their pen, and we know how much ducks poop. I wash her hands a lot, tell her to stay away. She loves picking up dried mealworms and throwing them everywhere, toddler-she tries to put everything in her mouth, when they were a month old, she broke out in hives, this of course had nothing to do with the ducks. My husband still flips and freaks about everything! But he's come to realize I love charlie and JoJo and as he says, I could have a lot worse hobbies so he'll deal with it. Wash your hands, no kids playing in their yuck yuck and it will be fine. I still throw away pacifiers constantly, Ryleigh throws them in the duck's pen when she thinks their sad, she knows they are babies too! And Charlie has defiantly imprinted on her, she kisses her and follows her around.its adorable! So don't worry, it gets better and you'll calm down over time, it also helps once the whole family gets a routine down, ducks are a lot if work! hope this helps, at least make you feel better...

My 6 year old came home from his last day of school vomiting today. Of course, I'm running through the possibilities in my head as to causes. We have had the 9 week old Pekins and the Almost 3 week old goslings in the house. I can't help but think that maybe... But, I am wonderful about cleaning their pens and making sure my son and I are frequently hand washing and actually he is very good about it. Honestly I really don't know if he's sick because of the birds or its just a bug going on. He's already feeling better so I suppose I shouldn't worry about it! :)

I worry, like I said the hubby is worse. My biggest problem is she wants to go in their pool, I have their inside one downstairs and I now have 5 baby pools outside. Three for the ducks and 2 for ry ry. My landlords going to think I'm crazy with all those pools and one kid. Thankfully, he doesn't know u have ducks yet and I'd rather keep it that way as long as I can! But I change their water everyday, hers is sometimes dirtier than theirs...lol.but there us no way I would evervlet them in the same pool.

Anyhow, my next project which I will begin this weekend is a garden. One side for vegetables, the other side flowers. And in the middle, a duck pool, some rocks, and some type of plants. I'm gonna have a fence around it. Unheard ducks are actually good for gardens so everything has to be duck friendly. So that's my question, is there a list of what I can plant, or book, or can anyone give me ideas on anything?!? From the layout to what plants, flowers, etc. All and any suggestions welcome please!!!

Had my first run in with a fox hanging around the ducks fencing... As the ducks squawked violently. It was still date late and scared me to death! Chased the fox away with a grill brush. Ugh hope this doesn't happen too often

I have such a complicated relationship with foxes and raccoons. They're so darn cute, and yet a famer"s worst nightmare!

Saltandpepper2 I can handle the fox but the raccoons make a mess around my house. Thankfully our golden retriever is normally out with them and keeps a good eye on the ducks. I stay much more alert now when he's not out there with them lol

i am glad your son's getting better. i am betting it is a bug. You obviously take great care to prevent cross contamination between birds and all yourselves.
