Pekin Duck Club!

Just watched the super cute video of your little vacuum cleaners. So adorable.
Thanks!

I'm still struggling with the water/food issue. They run out of water really quickly while still creating a huge mess. With my nipple solution I know they won't die of thirst. Right now I leave both the nipple waterer there all the time, then clean water in the purple device at night (after feeding) and in the morning (after feeding).

I'm concerned if I leave food in their home they might run out of the water they can put their bills in. Right now they can only eat in the morning, around 5:30pm and when I put my chicks to sleep ~ 9:00pm. Three feedings a day, is it enough? I know some people say food should be available all the time for ducklings.

Thanks!

I wish I could help you with answers but I don't own any ducks. A few Pekin owners to ask are JLynnsDuckies and Debs Flock. I am on these threads cuz I really love ducks alot.

I left food in with them 24/7. When they are babies and growing they need access to it at all times. I just made sure they always had water. The mess is crazy and I cleaned up after them either by adding fresh bedding to wet areas or cleaning it out completely. They are alot of work for the first six weeks but once they're outside it gets so much easier! Good luck with your new little ones. Finding a routine that works for you and them makes it so much easier! :)

Thanks!

What about something like this?

you could make 2 and place a rock in the bottom to keep them from tipping it over. I used something very similar with my ducklings and it really helps plus do you have a broiler pan you don't use you can sit these on top and the excess water will go into the pan then you can pour it out it will help keep the area drier.

I use something like a broiler pan setup but it doesn't take up enough room. You use those for water or feed?
