I have three ducklings (3 weeks old) I have handled them, bathed them, sung to them, cuddled them and fed them treats and they still run from me. They at least start chirping when they hear my voice now.

I put them in the outdoor pen because I am afraid that if they are loose they will keep running.

Anyone want to guess what gender Aflac is? He's no younger than 8 weeks but I'm thinking no more than 10. Feed store duck. Very talkative (at least compared to my Swedish). About 6.5 pounds in weight now. Full profile and then a pic of just the tail.

Oh my i have just realize that my daughter has turned one of our ducklings in to a house pet its a week old and follows her through the house like a puppy would but i have to say so much cutter

Aww that is so cute! Sounds like your duckling imprinted hah does your little one call for your daughter when she leaves the room?

They are 6 weeks I think???? About the same as 5 of the hatchlings but growing much faster. And Lana, My puppy is a dork as well, but awefully cute.

Peas, mealworms or any treat that they seem to like hah ducks are food motivated and hopefully it will help some. Try and stay low, keep your voice low when you talk to them and move slowly. How do they behave when you get near them?

I thought some of you with babies who are new to ducks might like to see a progression pic of my Pekin, Puddle.

Puddle at 2 days, 4 weeks, and 12 weeks.

I'm going to try the low voive and profil. I have been doing treats with a licking sound and I also say" quack quack and that they know means Food!" But they still find a corner as far as they can be from me. Their 7+ wks old now. I think I'll have to face it. They don't like me :-(

Don't get disheartened. They are just following instinct. You are large and therefore are a threat to them. Just sit on your knees and talk low and soft to them some everyday, multiple times if you can. Ours went through that same stage. As babies they were dependent on us, as they grew they started acting scared and would hide in the corners of their crate shivering till I shut the door. I would pull one out, sit on my knees and tuck her between them. Then I would bend over her so she was tucked completely under me and talk very softly in her ears. all kinds of mushy lovey things. They began to come around and would relax more. Ours don't follow us around like dogs but we can grab one up anytime and hold them. The rest of the day they do ducky things out in the pen with the chickens. Continue with the hand feeding of treats, especially after one of the lovin sessions.

Thank you! I appreciate it! That was a blast that day! It turned colder, snowed even and has stayed cool....now it is warming up again. Can't wait to take them back down there....might do it today. I have the little ones out there now...seperate pen....which they are getting pretty big....I can't wait to do it with them also!
