Pekin Duck Club!

I had to run back to TSC again today. Ugh. Walked out with 4 more pekin ducklings and 8 Cornish crosses. They are my Kryptonite!!!!!
I haven't told my husband about the new ducklings yet. He likes to watch the little babies, so he's gonna notice.

But with duck.

I guess I am lucky. My husband bought me 3 Pekin ducklings today at Tractor Supply...... I wanted Campbells but love Pekins so not a big disappointment. I may get more next week. We have to go to pick up a special order and that makes us go pass the pens......

Hello, happy to have found this thread. My husband and I have 6 pekins. I think 3 are drakes and 3 are hens. They are 12 weeks old and 2 have just started doing the head bobbing thing. It's so funny to watch. I can't wait til we get our first egg. We also have a mallard and some sweds. They love tomatoes. The pekins are always front row and are usually red when the feeding frenzy is over. These are our first ducks. I wish that I had held them more when they were little so I could hold them now with out scaring them.

THat is pretty much my reaction when he noticed our 4 ducklings had turned into 8 LOL I was like what are you talking about.... besides, what's one more duck anyway

HAHA! That's how it was here. Now I have 5 brooders in my living room containing 20 chcks and 6 ducklings. I also have an incubator of 28 eggs under lockdown due to hatch Monday. Only four of those eggs are mine, but I have to keep the chicks for a few days since the actual owners are planning a vacation on Wed and Thursday. I still don't know where I'm going to put those hatchlings...

So just to confirm as my stella has started laying eggs if i do wish to hatch my pekin eggs i will need to purchase an incubator? For the time being im happy just refrigorating them for cooking and is it more or less a guesing game as to if the egg is even fertalized or not? Haha its funny i thought my tow were going to be really angry about me taking their egg from them particularly their first egg ever.
Also im in Australia so we`re just coming into autum now..

From what I understand Pekins are not good sitting on their eggs so either you need a bird like a muscovy duck to hatch them or use an incubator. We have no eggs yet from our Pekins but if we do we will probably incubate. I am working on getting some birds like Silkies, muscovies or cochins to hatch out eggs from other birds. In the mean time we have incubators going. When the 3 pekings are in their crate/brooder at night they smell up the place. They pee so much. I think it will be a lot easier if they can be hatched by another hen or duck.

Ok cool thanks ill prob get an incubator as my mum will go nuts if I bring home another duck though I would love another duck.
This morning though I found her egg just chilling in the middle of the yard haha it wasin the area where she had lst laid but no where near the actual spot. Another question was if I get a chook would my male pekin try you know... fertalizer her eggs.? Hah :/
