Pekin Duck Club!

Her are my ducks at 5 weeks old. They are definitely a male and female. PB (pink beak) is a female and OB (orange beak) is a male.

Unfortunately I've been extremely busy the past few weeks so they've become much more skiddish from lack of attention. I'm trying to work in bonding time everyday now. We are building their coop and run this weekend/next week so we'll hopefully have them outside by next weekend!

It still amazes me how quickly they grow. They sure are pretty.

Thank you guys. I did not start the niacin until today after I panicked and searched the web. Stupid newbie duck mom move.
Unfortunately, around 5pm when my husband got home, he found her laying in the cage, convulsing, with foam coming out of her mouth.

The area that they are in is completely bird friendly. My chickens are my pride and joy and I am super on top of keeping everything safe. The ducks now share the area and they all get along really well. I don't know what happened. She is the only one that has acted this way and I'm crossing my fingers that it began and ended with her.
It's probably unrelated, but she is also the duck that had the outward growing wing feathers as well. All the others have developed normally.

What the hack foam was coming put wow that must be rabid or something

Sometimes serious seizures cause foaming at the mouth, nate1the1great1.

One of my Pekin has a single black/blue feather.

At first I thought it was just dirty, but after I put it in the tub, nope. It's a feather. Is that weird?

Can I join the club?
Just got my first two ducklings on Thursday. We were originally going to get 4 Indian Runners, but when we went to pick up found out the shipment had been delayed until Monday. My 9 year old daughter was not about to leave the feed store without a duckling, so we brought home 2 adorable Pekins. We will go back Monday to add 2 Indian Runners to our flock. But for now we are loving our Pekin!

I picked up a roaster pan at a thrift store, it's doing the trick to keep the brooder (somewhat) dry!

At first I thought it was just dirty, but after I put it in the tub, nope. It's a feather. Is that weird?

I was told that a Pekin drake would have a single black feather on its back many years ago, back before I knew really anything about keeping ducks. I never saw this happen tho, so I'd written that piece of advice off as an old wife's tale. Altho, knowing what we know now about Pekins (as a breed), being derived from the wild Mallard, which carries the wild black color gene (I think it is e+) ... You will have to update later, I suppose it is possible that that black feather might disappear with a normal molt. I think that's really cool that you noticed that!
