Pekin Duck Club!

I keep my ducks & chicks together & at night they have access to water but only through poultry nipples. Keeps the water-mess down to "nada" inside the coop but this gives them access to water 100% of the time. I found the idea for the setup here on BYC! Love this site!!!

I have 4 girls in a coop at night. I was not giving them water at night but now that it is warmer and humid I use a 1 gallon ice cream tub with a hole cut in the lid big enough for their head - and WA-LA no mess. Oh take the handle off too, I know my girls would find it great fun but I worry about them getting tangled up in it and getting hurt.

Great news.. great work on your part!! keep up treatment till completely healed.

Sorry it's been awhile. Happy to report Little Miss' foot is totally healed. I think in the process of it all she has become quite spoiled. She liked her foot soaks and attention. So much so she won't go to bed now unless we pick her up and put her in the coop. Silly Girl!

Spoiling is fine especially when it means helping them get over something. I love to spoil mine. Awesome news on Little Miss

Hi everyone . I just did my first hatch and out of 5 eggs in lockdown I ended up with 1 duck that was an assisted hatch after no progress after 24 hours after external pip. This is Bowie

Don't give up too early on the other eggs. Some I hatched earlier in the spring hatched over a four day period starting on day 27.

I gave them an extra day, nothing so I traced around the air sack and poked a small hole...there was no movement, they had died.

Ok my ducks are 1 week old, do I have to buy a special "grit" or is access to fine dirt/sand enough?

If they have access to the out doors daily then dirt and sand is enough, mine will get grit because I can't take them outside on days it rains which seems to be almost everyday.

Hello! I have a Pekin that I hatched that I'm questioning whether it's pure bred or not. I went to a farm in MI, all I saw where pure white geese and Pekin duck, free ranging on a huge farm that is a learning center for children. There are, horse, chickens, ducks and geese oh and a cow and her baby. Lots of people there all the time.

Well, I received some eggs from the farm in April. I was told they were Embden geese and Pekin duck eggs. Well, when they hatched, the Embden looked normal, but I ended up with a goose with a black beak and feet(later found out it was from a Chinese/Toulouse pair) the one and only duck, was yellow with black spots.

Here is my "Pekin" at 4 weeks...

Here is a video from today...
