So funny to watch these guys in the rain. They get so mad at the idea of going into their enclosure ever when it's pouring--it takes twice as long to get them inside, which leads me to believe that they are sure I must also love the rain as much as them because I end up soaked even in a rain coat

its actually fine to leave them in the rain for a while as long as they have somewhere to hide if they want. Maybe extended amounts of time arent great, but for a little time its fine.

Well our ducks go into their house at around dusk. We have a very sweet protection dog, so they're safe in the yard, but it's very difficult to get them in during rain at dusk. Most days, they want to be out all day in the rain, and their enclosure is always open if they're sick of the rain/weather at any point.

I like your duck house, would something like this be appropriate for winter time?  I live in Illinois so we can get pretty cold during winter time.

Thanks I'm I'm TX so winter isn't really an issue and it faces south east and gets morning sun. If it looks like it will be a cold spell I may put something over part of the front. But winters usually aren't that bad.

Our Pekin drake is sick, and we have no idea what it could be. I've read everything known to man, and most causes have very similar symptoms. We're heading to the vet in the morning assuming he makes it that long. He has tremors, doesn't want to move around, stays squatted, has a dirty vent, feathers look odd. So mixed up with all the possibilities of what it could be. Botulism, herpes, coccidiosis??? I'd appreciate any suggestions. My female seems ok, other than acting nervous, she knows he is sick. They also are roommates with 4 chickens, and they all seem ok for now. They free range by day, and go into a large coop/run by night. He seemed fine and suddenly within the last 32 hours, I sensed something was off. Freaking out barley covers how we are feeling right now. He's been ours since a baby, is only about 6 months old, and just started mating.

I would put a teaspoon of food grade activated charcoal supplement in a cup of water and give him that to drink - it absorbs toxins, is otherwise harmless (way too much can be constipating, just for the record). Make sure he has plenty of fresh water also. You could put some charcoal in his regular drinking water as well if he shows no interest in the more concentrated solution.

Thanks. Of course I don't have charcoal here, but I had read about that on some of the posts. The vet opens at 7:30, so if he is still with us in the morning, that'll be the first place we go. I am hoping that the avian vet can handle him. I never realized how tough it was to find poultry vets!! We had budgies a few years ago, so I hope their old vet can/will see him!
Either way, sounds like charcoal is a good thing to have handy.

I am praying for your boy. Please keep us posted with his condition. I hope he will be okay. I lost my favorite duck a few months ago and it changed the whole demeanor of my other ducks when we got another girl. She is not very social and now they all are a lot more distant. They all used to come in together for group hugs. I miss our baby and I hope your will be okay. Healing prayers coming your way.

Jury is still out. Blood work is pending. X-rays are showing an apparent gizzard obstruction. Looks like he ingested something that isn't breaking down. He's still with us. Prescribed antibiotics and anti-inflammatory meds. Not sure if he will pull through! Prayers are needed and appreciated!! Thanks!
