Pekin Duck Club!

Oh and all of the sudden my sweet boy has started biting me and charging me if I get close to his girlfriend - what is up with that? Thank you!

If your females are a year old, they should be laying. If they free-range, they may be laying somewhere you don't know about. My pekins were laying by age 5 months. (Or perhaps your pekins are not female?)

The male has reached sexual maturity and you're his competition. This is normal duck behaviour. Don't allow him to continue or it will likely increase in intensity. You can use a broom to gently shoo him away, you can put an emply feed pan between you and he, etc. In any case, simply do not let him continue. You are the "leader" of the group and he must learn this. Never back away from him when he does this or he will think he has "won" and you are not in charge.

Oh ok thank you! They are not free-range and the person I bought them from said she laid an egg once a day and she hasn't - am I doing something wrong

I don't know how long you have had these ducks—if you just got them recently, they may still be adjusting to your location. If she really is a year old and has been with you for a month or two, it may be too cold, the feed you give her (though mine never seemed much bothered by laying pelllets versus other types of pellets) may have an effect or a number of things. The fact that the male just became protective is interesting. I would wonder if the ducks were really as old as the person selling them thought they were and if your female was the one laying. Maybe wait another month and see what happens.

Hey guys! So I have a pekin duck named quacky. He's almost 2 years old. Because of my new work schedule it's too much to take care of him right now and I'm trying to find him a new nice home. I live in New York. Any suggestions?! I have no idea where to bring a duck.

Hi everyone :) I have 3 pekin ducks about 8 months old, 2 female and 1 drake, recently I have noticed the feathers missing on my girls necks..I know its the drake roughing them up when he is mating but I'm worried he will go to far :/ is there anything I can do without seperating them ?

I would start with the Free Rehoming Forum here on BYC.
