Pellet Gun for predators??

Do your homework on the high end pellet guns. Some can equal a .22 subsonic round. Problem is, the pellet is light, and does not have good downrange velocity or energy. Close shots will work well.

Don't know how anyone can not have a .22 in the house. Subsonic .22's (often sold as target rounds), can be found with hollow points and 40 grain bullets. That would be my choice (CCI subsonic HP). Even in the most liberal anti-gun states, a .22 can be had with little issue. Get a good quality bolt action rifle (does not have to be expensive, and can be purchased used), scope it up and have fun learning to shoot. Yes, you can have fun with guns.

If looking to kill a pest, shot placement is everything. Don't care if you are shooting a .30-06 or a .22 short. Learn where to hit your target to put it down quickly and humanely.

We use a really mega powerful pellet type gun called a Gamo Big Cat. Its a brand i recently learned about and its very powerful. I had been told to look into the Gamo brand and we are very happy we did. We got ours at walmart

We have a small crossman gun that we use. I just make sure to keep plenty of "pointy" pellets on hand as opposed to the flatheaded or round ones. Granted, the majority of our predator problem is neighborhood cats so DH is only allowed to shoot to scare and not to kill. Mostly, cuz I have one cat that does go outside and does go into the chicken yard (why? I don't know. He could care less about the chickens and is more interested n what they have to eat) and I'm afraid he will shoot our kitty on accident.

Just yesterday I think I saw those guns at the wal-mart in Hanover, MA redhen. So I bet they have them near you. Also, the trap idea sounds good. Less work trying to hit the little thing.

Heck, a good sling shot would be better than a pellet gun. But then I do always go for the over kill. DO NOT EVER USE ANY WEAPON THAT WILL NOT GIVE YOU A CLEAN FAST KILL. Every critter deserves to live until it violates your space, then it needs to be dispatched quickly. If you can't make a clean kill DO NOT SHOOT. And yes I did use caps and used them correctly. Other than for target practice, I refuse to any gun smaller than a 12 ga. Come to think or it, I only have 2 guns smaller than a 12 ga. And 1 of them my uncle left to me in his will last month.

We went to Dick's Sporting Goods last night and decided against getting a pellet gun after talking to the woman at the gun counter. She did a tour in Iraq. Apparently, they used them to scare off pigeons but she did not believe that a pellet gun could kill a weasel unless we were relatively lucky.

She suggested a .22 but said that it costs $100 just to get a rifle license. A pest control company would be less expensive since they already have the "equipment" and presumably the licenses. I'm going to call around.

I use a Benjamin .22 air rifle.
It is very accurate and has enough power to kill a coon.

For anything bigger I use a .44 magnum.
