since I switched to a trashcan with pipes for feeding ports... there is close to zero feed loss, no matter what I put in there.

I only have 1 brand choice up here... so that is the brand I buy. I usually buy all flock... and have oyster shell on the side, simply because ... I have a mixed flock, so it is easier.

Do you have a photo of the feeder you could share with us?

I'm brandy new to chickens, but I still find pellets... Odd. I'm not sure if I'll use them.

Something shaped like that might be digestible, but my brain tells me that crumbles have more surface area = faster digestion = better nutrition!

Especially for animals that don't have teeth. I don't worry about dog or cat or even small animal feed coming in pellets - they have teeth for grinding. I know with grit it shouldn't be a problem, but... Mark me down as superstitious about pellets :idunno

Would love to see a picture of your feeder Alaskan. I feed the All Flock for the same reason, much easier with a mixed flock.

Haha, I've always thought the same thing. When I did try them with my flock they just pushed them out of the feeder & mixed them into the bedding. To me, very wasteful & may I say Welcome to BYC & chicken keeping :)

Great idea, how many pounds of feed does it hold? Do you have any problems with moisture getting into the feed?
it holds about 125 pounds of feed.

It stays dry even with the trashcan out in the weather. .... but I don't get sideways rain.

On occasion I get sideways snow, but that pulls out easily. It does have to be pulled put.
