Hi
I'm going to make a three tier pen for my quail. Before I make it I would like to know if this size will work. each pen is going to be 16" wide 16" high 64" long. Let me know if this will work there will be a total of 6 pens this size

So what size of pen would I need to house more then five quail
You need at least 1 square foot per quail if normal quail jumbos need more and when you add feeders and waters take 1 square foot of open space away per feeder and waterer. So your pens are 7 square feet minus 2 or more for feeders and waters per square feet of open space you add you can add 1 more quail.

I don’t buy into all the talk of 1 square foot per bird, never have.. I have 8 jumbo hens and add a jumbo rooster for 10-12 days when I am keeping eggs to hatch and I have done it this way for 20+ years.. my hanging cages are 32 inches by 24 inches and 12 inches high. I have never had a problem.. my grow out pen is the size of your cage and I put 35-50 chicks in them up until 5 weeks of age.. keep clean cool water for them and keep feed in front of them 24/7 and you will be fine.. I’m not saying you won’t have a couple injured or picked on as adults because you will, everyone does it’s just in their nature.. but your cages will be sufficient for 15-25 birds..

Wynola Ranch Myshire Farms Edition cage.. 24 x 37 the height is misleading because it’s measured on a stand.. I have mine hanging I don’t use the stand, the cage has 15 jumbo hens in it now and has had as many as 20 standard Coturnix hens for several months.. never a problem.. take some advice here with a grain of salt, it’s not written in stone..
