Penicillin G for Mini horse

I was told to give my newly acquired mini horse; got him from a guy who got him from the auction; 2ml injection of penicillin G to ward off the sale barn snots. How safe is penicillin G? He does have a bit of a dry cough when he is sniffing around the barn floor and a very slight snot nose(barely noticeable). Vet won't be out until Friday.

Pen G is a very safe antibiotic but that being said if the mini is still eating and drinking normally and only has a slight snotty nose don't give him anything until the vet sees him. Most snotty noses in horses are viral anyway.
