Harlan S. :

Hello again. I've been following these posts with much amusement. How come Wingerdinger was edited out after posting, yet Holly can continue to call the neighbor "an old biddy". I don't care what type of definition you put on it, it is still an insulting thing to say. What if somebody posted that she's a "crazy Canuck". I've live Earth mapped this town and if you live on the edge you would be Ok with a coop, but it's too small to have one in town. I'm sure there are other people in town watching this (they may not want to rock the boat). I'm all for doing what MAY be legal, but putting the coop right under your deck with the neighbors within feet of them is NOT the right thing to do. If you had some yard space, why didn't you place it AWAY from the homes. That's what a considerate neighbor would do. Neighbor - meaning you try to consider how you may impact the people around you. I can't wait for the people that feel that everyone should be raising fowl start throwing their two cents in. Just my opinion !!!

ummm... sounds like you're wingerdinger signed in under a different username. A forum is not supposed to be personal... that's why Holly can call her neighbor an old biddy if she wants - NO ONE knows (except you/wingerdinger obviously) that neighbor. Why does it even matter? Someone shouldn't have to consult their neighbor about what goes on on their own property - especially if it's perfectly legal as Holly found out.

georgialee - exactly! The person who was edited out came in specifically to chastise Holly O. They were informed by another "neighbor" that Holly was looking for advice on her ordinance matter and came in here and was personally attacking the OP.

it seems to me that Harlan is in the same rocky boat since this is the ONLY post they have posted in. This line alone makes me concerned for the OP that there are more than just her next door neighbor out to make her "pay" for wanting to live her life in peace...

I can't wait for the people that feel that everyone should be raising fowl start throwing their two cents in. Just my opinion !!
!

Further, it seems to me that since this IS A FORUM ABOUT RAISING CHICKENS, maybe Harlan S is a bit confused about what we members support.

Since you've been following the thread, I would think you would have noticed that despite repeated requests for a reference to the ordinance, it has not been provided to her, while she has been told conflicting information that is very vague.

First she was told that there is no ordinance forbidding chickens. Then she was told that they were not allowed at all. Then she was told that she is allowed 4 chickens, that they cannot range in her yard and she is not allowed to hatch eggs or raise them for consumption. Then the story changed to 3 or 4 with no stipulations. She initially asked for a copy of the ordinance nearly a month ago and neither it nor a reference to it has been given.

There have been no official complaints about her coop; if a building permit is needed I expect that an official complaint would been served.

I am on the planning commission in my county in Ga. It is law everywhere that you are to be supplied with the ordinances for your home. Some places, including ours, post these on their website. Try that.

Barring that, who was the attorney when you closed on your home? I would first call them and ask them about the ordinance. They probably have a copy in the office and would let you have it for no charge.

Not to ba an alarmist, but don't let this go or they will bully you. My guess is, like yours, that their really is no ordinance.

Lastly, just go to the city hall, or permit office and request the copy. Be prepared to pay copy costs and don't leave until they give it to you. YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO WAIT, as it is right there for the employees and town to read.

You are a property owner and your rights are attached to that property. Stand up for you and your chickens!

Well I love you people. But I'm not going to tolerate this person.
So I'm going to close this post.

Not sure if I can say this but I have a feeling it's my SIL in Texas.

I'll be around. Look forward to hearing from you all at times.

BIG hugs from ME!
