Soooo, how would you go about just having 2 birds get it on? Put them in a "special time" location? lol And at what age?
Rose, come on now....really!? A lil wine, a lil Barry Manilow, candle light and a soft cushion .....and you wait

so sally, if chad's pickng up quail this weekend, am I sending the cochin girl with him also.
So Chad's coming this weekend? I missed the smoke signals.
patrickchick, we have the same problem with marans no matter if we hatch by incubator or broodie. Dry incubation works better than regular. The broodies are crazy mental cases too. Never try to co-hatch with them- they fight over the eggs from day 1.
Still, we persist!
I did a dry incubation and only added water at the end. I'll try again...Just gonna have to wrestle some more eggs up.

Sally I'm going to the one at Penn State on March 13. The flyer for the Penn State course in State College says you must complete and email/fax application for pre-approval by Friday , March 1, 2013 to Dr. Elizabeth Santini ([email protected], 814-946-7354-fax, 717 -443-1185- phone). This course at Penn State will also be doing lab work.
That is that way because I didn't organize it

. The March 7th class in Harrisburg is the 2nd of what I hope to be a continuing trend in education aimed directly at us, the backyard poultry folks. The field portion of the class is not included in the day, but we have Dr. martin speaking at this one and from the last class, I can honestly say I'm going again just to get more information from him and Dr. Hanshaw.

Some days.....there is just not enough wine.
And than there's whiskey. Or "special orange juice"
I tried some wine over Valentine's. I couldn't do it. I will try again with what you guys suggested. I had to deal with blueberry juice and blueberry schnapps tonight.
Now that sounds tasty too!
Really? I thought you were a 5'6-8" tall, long black hair, size 5 woman in her mid twenties. Let me keep thinking that. I have been idolizing you for months!
Will you stop making me blush, you were following me again!

I also got 6 Sumatra hens tonight. 3 black and 3 blue. They are soooooooooooooo sweet!!!! Very stately looking. They will be awesome for the egg flock!!!
Sweet!! Love the roos, had bad experience with midnight and shadow years ago when I was milking. They would tag team and waffle the hell out of you. I can still remember the blood and bruises. (known for more than 1 spur, typically 3 if I remember correctly)

FOUND THEM AGAIN!!! will send DH and Mine out tomorrow!! PROMISE!! Who else is going??
I am!
Sally I'm planning on attending as long as I have a babysitter for the kids don't think they want a 4 yr old n a 19 month old there helping!!
Yeah the kids just may get bored unless we throw the kids all in a room with chicks and let them have a romper room. hmmmm
would be nice if I HAD A BOOK to refer to!! LMAO!
And you shall have one. Want one tomorrow? I have to run to K&K first though. And can drop off a book, the pond shell and windows.
I am also going on the 7th , need to fill out paperwork over the weekend, I promise....well someone remind me........
will rely on all of you to keep me awake, heading there right after work, gonna be a long day...
Do you need a NPIP book?

I know it might seem like over kill, but think of it this way, you hatch them in the bottom of the 1502 right????   You have probably 3 trays????  That is what I have.  I can put 49 LF eggs per tray.  So what I do is stagger my hatches, a week apart on Saturdays.  When hatching/peeps season is in full swing, I can't keep enough peeps for the demand.  Especially if you put yourself out there, have a website, or join specialty clubs.  This is my first year with a waiting list!  Its very exciting.  I can't wait to start hatching from my breeding pens, they will be ready in the beginning of March.  I am going to have to test shipments of eggs to see how they do.

This is where I get lost with these cabinet bators. So, are you incubating AND hatching at the same time? I saw this once on u-tube where they just moved all the trays down each week and hatched in the bottom tray. I was confused as to how lockdown worked with humidity levels and what-not...

Also, Sumatras? WOW!! Very cool!

I'll set them as I get them.  The girls went from 3 eggs a day to 8-10 a day to 0-3 a day again.  I am going to start hatching now for 1) my projects and 2) to sell at MsBear's June 8th swap in Sharpsburg, MD.  I am also going to buy a few more dozen of eggs since getting started birds is proving impossible for a few projects.  The 41 egg Hova-bator just wasn't cutting it anymore.  Although, now that I see the Sportsman, I think it may have been overkill.

What are you incubating to sell at the swap?? I will be there too thinking I might get a table to sell crafts :)

Some days.....there is just not enough wine.
Absolutely!!!!
Depending on the egg trays, 180-288 chicken eggs.
Hey I am tall and fat!

I think we are all having that kind of evening. I settled for one Whiskey Sour. The fact that it was a quart jar that I was drinking from doesn't matter! It was ONE glass!
That's all that matters, you only had 1!

You sir, are an enabler!
