Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Wayyy to many posts to go threw them all!!!

But any how I have 2 baby pheasants.. one already tried to commit sucide... twice! Once by sneaking into the duck side of the cage and jumping into the water bowl... 2nd it ran to the duck side when I was cleaning and the goose stood on it.. in the feed dish!!! Now its in a perm spot and secure!! Little buggers!

Pheasants?! Cool! I was just looking at a thread with pheasant pens.

I've been motivated by everyone's coop pictures, so I'm building a small grow out coop with run, I set the first screw yesterday -hope I get the dang thing finished by Halloween. DH, talented man that he is, does NOT do coops. :(

ONE of Sara's duckies hatched! Still wet, one other one pipped so I don't want to open the bator.

I candled mine and again all 17 are thriving :duc Still just the one duck, trying to keep, away from the bator and just let it happen. The 4Hers, I directed them to your thread, and asked if maybe it could just be Meconium Poo. I've heard back from 1 of the three with the issue and it was meconium. One of the others sent me a pic, and it is a non absorbed yolk sac, haven't heard from the third. Thanks :) cskotek, so glad they made it, they are water magnets so be careful! I plan to keep them closer to the house anyhow, so they may not even hear them. We will have to see what happens.

I use mostly recycled materials but my eggs certainly don't pay for feed. My comment was made based on cost of birds, feed, supplies, etc & JUST profit from egg sales (which was the question-Is it cheaper to raise chickens for eggs or buy them from the store.) Most definitely cheaper to buy eggs, but that's not the reason most of us have chickens. I answered the question that was asked.

I charge $3 for 12 chicken eggs & $3 for 6 duck eggs for eating eggs. Feed still costs more per month than if I sold every egg as an eating egg. Once again, I don't raise chickens to make a profit from the eggs. I make more profit hatching & selling babies or selling hatching eggs.

The Amish girl up the road & I both sell our eggs for $3 for 12 for eating eggs. Cheaper than the store even just for brown eggs.

If you're smart and strict about it, you most certainly can produce eggs cheaper than factory farms.

Anyone have baby button quail hatching anytime soon? I have one that hatched with turkeys... FOUR DAYS LATE. Now I think I need a buddy or a few for it that don't weigh 100x more than it does.
