Quote: Thank you to EVERYONE that likes the run. I am very excited about it. No beer. The beer IS kept in the fridge in the coop (with a lock to keep neighbor kids out. As well as naughty chickens!). It never occurred to us to drink beer since we were too busy guzzling cool aid and water. We did reward ourselves when we were done. We showered (duh) jumped on the Harley, and rode to Altoona for a very late (9P.M.!) steak dinner @ The Lonestar and a Whiskey Sour each. I then slept the whole way home.
I hesitated to remind DH that : A. I need another run for the side of the coop/second coop (the chicks were moved in yesterday. Wanna hear a story? Give me a minute), and B. The extension allows for 13 chickens going by the 10sq ft/bird rule (does everyone follow that rule, or is 8 enough?). There are 12 over there, but chicken math is a reality.
Story time! The second coop (shed is divided in half) isn't finished, but I had to choose between making it work, and cleaning the brooder. So ... I went to catch the chicks. Said chicks have had little human contact in the past week. Two jumped out of the brooder, and began running around the garage. The garage is HUGE! Two stories, a sunken floor (or whatever it is called). It is about 20 X 15 in the front, and 15 X 40 in the back. The Plymouth Rock got caught trying to sneak down the stairs to the sunken part. The other (a Barred Rock) finally got caught in a corner. "here Chicky Chicky" got them to my hand, but not long enough to grab them. It took about twenty minutes to catch them.
After getting "all" the chicks, I had a problem. One was missing (Again!). I listened. I looked. No chick. I walked away... Then went back,, and lifted up the top of a rabbit room (works as a nest box when quarantining hens). There she was! That took another ten minutes. The girl is sneaky! She will be the winner of every game of keep away.
So I get her in the dog carrier, and off we go to the big girl coop. One chick just did not want to come OUT of the carrier.
Last night I saw them sleeping in the corner closest to the big chickens. Made them happy, so I am happy.
