Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Are the birds in your layer pen mixes or are there some pure breeds in there. I hope this doesn't sound rude but I don't want any leghorns please. We just don't get along..

PA you ask for hatching eggs and when you get a response you make conditions.....that is not cricket,,,,perhaps you should take these types of discussion off line

Sorry, didn't realize it would stir up a hornets nest.. I was not trying to be rude.. I am sorry if I offended anyone.

More chicks hatching! These also underwent a 36 hour loss of power and 60 degree temp, but were only in there about 2 days when it happened. They are also 2 days late hatching.

There are 3 in this pic, the 2 in the back are mostly yellow and are "barnyard mix", but the shadowy guy in front might be the first of the German New Hampshires (I hope, I hope). I have to pull the empty shell and check it's number to be sure.

Sorry the pics aren't sharper, I can't open the incubator to get closer. Once they get to the brooder, I'll get a better shot, but I couldn't really wait for that

*links arms* We can do it! right? RIGHT?!

I actually am not even considering buying any. They had Buff Orps, Cornish Xs, EEs (a lot) and light Brahmas. I want to get Dewey (OH) his Marans and my turkeys. Sadly, I am fighting the urge for BLRWs. I liked them and my Delawares, but I am not sure I want to build MORE coops. A 10x20 is already planned for this year - that's just for the turkeys.

My new babies!!

I purchased 3 kahki campbells last year and they were all drakes, so they went bye bye. I figure 6 should get me some girls this time

I got 4 KCs last year and I picked all females. When the KCs are young, the girls are slightly lighter.

Chicken Math:
The 3 chicks in the previous pic are now part of a group of 12, with #13 almost out. The latest one in a pure BBS Breda Fowl, also a first. I could tell they were fertile and developing, but the last batch couldn't handle the 36 hour chill, but this one did!

I'll get another pic tonight after more are fluffed out.

can't wait to see the pictures! My babies are growing faster than I expected being the newbie I am lol. A couple of my little reds are starting to develope tiny little combs and they're all testing or their tiny little wings, jumping and roosting all over the branch I have in their brooder. The feathers growing out on their wings are gorgeous. I think we're going to have a beautiful batch!

You weren't being rude. I think it's great that people know what breeds are right for them rather than getting something that they can't live with. I can't get any with head feathers, silkies polish etc. they get picked off like tic tacs at my house! Knowledge is power.
