I think the Polish is a pullet and the Cochin is a cockerel, maybe? Are his wattles red and prominent?

And I think the comment about 'culling the herd' has to do with the Salmonella out break.

Feel better Fisher, toothaches are the worst!

Thank you Blarney.... I had a broken/lost filling repaired last week, I love my dentist (25 years going to him) but I had more pain after getting that done than I've ever had from a dental procedure before, including when he took out my wisdom teeth (in the office)... I can't work when taking anything stronger than Tylenol, and the antibiotics didn't change anything, so not an infection causing the problem. So get to go in this afternoon for either an extraction or root canal. At this point I don't care what he does as long as it quits!
Hi- I'm in Adams County, near Gettysburg. I'm looking for some Silkie hens or chicks and also some Americaunas ? Can anyone help me out ?

Thanks !
Welcome to our little corner of the site! I'm too far away to help but there are quite a few folks in your neck of the woods, I'm sure someone will be able to give you some direction soon!

I saw recent ads on Craigslist (york area) for both types of chicks at the West York Agway, I'm not sure how far that is from you, but that may be your best option. You might still be able to find a hatchery with those available, but you would need to meet their minimum order size.

I know, once you have the right setup and start processing, each bird only adds a little more work, but the setup and cleanup are significant.

It's not a bad little business for someone if they had the equipment and some training. This is the sort of small time, back yard business that we need more of, instead of boring people with minimum wage jobs that have no future. I guess I'm dreaming, I'd like to see a couple of teenagers in high school startup their own chicken processing business. Every few weeks, that take a Saturday and have people drop off their chickens in cages and a cooler with ice. I imagine they could make $100 for a few hours work.

Learn entrepreneurial skills and make a little cash by meeting a need in the community. I would gladly volunteer my time helping someone with the business side of this.

I could see this being done at one of the more rural (not yuppie) farmers' markets. One of the ones like Antes Fort that has actual buildings so it could be done behind the walls hidden from the casual shopper but accessible.

Good morning all:

looks like my broody girl has a new one under her.....dad went in for a visit...the babe hoped out onto the coop floor and dad gave her a peck (not hard)and the babe hopped back in the nesting box...dad leaned over within and inch of the babe checking her out before she scooted under mom....a couple of other girl came in for a visit too.....

Well I am not a young yuppie, more like old hippie....but I think this would be a great little business.

That set up and tear down is the most time consuming part, I am wanting a permanent little building with running hot and cold water that could house everything and be mostly stainless steel and easily washable..........

I can dream, can't I...

Toothaches are the worst, I vote for yank it out and be done with it.

Told I didn't have to work tonight so I got up early.

Planted corn, watermelons, tomatoes (after building my tomato table) and peppers.

Fang I feel productive today. I need to get as much done as I can since my trees come today and I need to get them in the ground. Not sure how many I ordered, 100-200, I think. Guess how I'm spending memorial day weekend! Outstanding in my field!
