This morning I found a big fat centipede in our garage. I was so excited, I scooped it up and ran out to call the girls over. They all ran over bawking, excited that I as giving them a treat. I threw it in front of them, they all looked it over and walked away complaining that it wasn't something good. Do chickens not eat centipedes??

We haven't had any luck giving them centipedes either... they must give off bad vibes or something because they don't get any more than a cursory glance before they turn away... now potato bugs are a different story! The hens will follow me around for ages if I turn over rocks for them to fid them under!

My daughters thinks I should spend all day flipping over rocks and digging up holes to find goodies for our chickens, I wish she could stay so easily amused and innocent. I also found a little hole that had ants run in and out, I threw a few pieces of scratch on it to encourage the chickens to eat them but no luck with that either.

Mine eat ants and flies....catching a fly is no easy task (imho)......

What happens when you take a couple handfuls of black oil sunflower seeds from a bird seed bag and you'd them in a flower bed. Didn't plant or dig in, just tossed them.

That's so awesome! I'm gonna do that next year. I got a packet of mammoth sunflower seeds, planted 17 and the chickens and duck at all of the seeds/seedlings except for two. I planted 6 more yesterday hoping to save the seeds for winter. Also have a mealworm farm and some of the mealworms are about "full grown" so I will refrigerate half of them and let the other half reproduce.

Wow, you are lucky. Maybe my girls are a bit lazy and spoiled. It seems as though we have a ton of flies right now and my girls free range so I feel like I am constantly out scooping up poo from the driveway and yard.
