LMP will you be having your granddaughter this weekend? I'll be having my Not My Granddaughter

Saturday and Sunday. Maybe we could have a play date! Oh, and I said Hi to you yesterday as I drove through NB. If I knew which house was yours, I might actually stop and say hi in person!

The sunflowers have given me an idea for a bare spot in my yard where they would look lovely .. yeah, the girls do scratch around in there so some, if not all, might get eaten but I would like to try throwing some seeds in and hopefully some will get buried during scratch-time and germinate.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but are the sprouts OK for the girls to eat .. I can see them snipping any shoots that might make it!

So pretty much, I would be fighting a losing battle to get some that look as beautiful as chiques but I would like to try :)

Thanks. I just buy a big bag of BOSS for like $20 in the spring. Scatter some, feed some. A lot don't germinate, the wild birds, mice, and chipmunks eat some, some grow.

Yeah, i'm lazy. My neighbor had a bag sitting on his plow and it spilled. He has a mass at one spot.

I have some coming up at random spots from birds carrrying them. I just let them grow. Same with wild berries, have little patches all over, I just go out and browse when I'm hungry. Wineberrirs and blackberries are in now. Mulberries and raspberries are done for this year.

My wild raspberries are just about done...if you need to train your chooks they go ape over them....

it amazes me how far we're behind up here in the mountains. Still getting used to it since we've only lived here a year so far. We just found a huge red raspberry patch yesterday with so many not ripe yet and we're still picking some black raspberry stragglers. The black berries here are still just little green blobs lol.

how about it!! Grew up in Lancaster Co....used to having a garden in by April..but no-can-do here!!..lucky if it you can get away from NOT having to cover plants in June! hahaha...We have been here, hummm...16 years, in the 17th..wow, that is awhile!!..hahaha

I hear Muscovies are the very best at catching flies, sort of like guineas are the best at ridding a place of ticks. We really should all have a few of each kind, don't you think?

I would love to get some Muscovies but my husband says no. We did have 3 guineas but they left and won't come home, they spend all of their time visiting the neighbors. I think they have stopped at home 2 times in the past few months, our neighbors love having them and everyone feeds them.

Here too... our raspberries are only just starting to ripen!

What happens when you take a couple handfuls of black oil sunflower seeds from a bird seed bag and you'd them in a flower bed. Didn't plant or dig in, just tossed them.

Looks great! From what I have read, you should try to keep them away from your garden beds (can't tell from the picture where they are located). I believe sunflowers exude a plant growth deterrent from their roots to discourage other plant growth. Dhetzel, can you chime in on this one? Am I remembering correctly?

OH NO !!!

I must go to TSC for rabbit food, I never leave with just the item I went for.

May the force be with you! :pop

Humans say -- "Time flies when you're having fun!"

Muscovies say -- "It's a fun time when you're having flies!"

Well said!

From what I understand, there is something in the seed shells also....if you look under the bird feeder where you put your sunflower seeds, there will be a bare spot.....
