Yes, they lay in this bag of hay by the back door. I hate to break them of it, it's so convenient to collect eggs!

How about just old windows, there's stacks of them up in the barn if you can make that work, come gt some
omgosh..that is an awesome offer!!! we are using old windows over just some pallet wood frame..it works!
My biggest chicken has just started laying and so far they have been quite big eggs. Turns out they are double yolkers!

Hey LMP, do you know where Culross Dr is in Westport? I can't find it on the map.
not familiar with that one..maybe that is actually a persons home address, addresses around here can get pretty weird..hahahaha
going by the house soon?....we will have the GD till 4ish tomorrow..and Friday into Saturday...
Has anyone ever read the Blu-Kote bottle? "Do not use on horses intended for meat"
Aside from horse meat not being something I want to think about, how is it safe on "normal" meat animals?
not even going there MC...i know different strokes for everyone, but man...
I used it on my turkey last yr when my heritage hens beat her up. Didn't kill us.
huh yeah...used it on one of the meaties ..and DH and family just had dinner..they are all still here too..

Wonder if it's genetic? Certainly never expected it out of my first egg! If I can figure out which one laid it I'll lend her to you

Has anyone ever tried to incubate a double yoker? I can usually tell which ones they are bc they are so much bigger than my normal eggs. Every once and awhile I'm fooled and its a single but I was just curious.

More baby chicks today! We have 3 so far and 3 more with cracks in them. Yippie! As soon as Mama lets me I will take some pictures.

Dumb question. How can I tell when carrots are ready to be harvested? I bought some seeds today and I'm going to plant them tomorrow.

LMP, I am hoping for a Friday appointment. IF I can find the house. Courthouse doesn't have the borrower listed, nor the street. I was thinking it might be the pointy top of Centre County but it isn't there, either. I'll wave as I go by.

It's very rare for a double yolk egg to hatch successfully. You should eat those and hatch the smaller ones. To some extent, a larger egg makes for a larger, healthier chick, but extremes on either side are not as good for hatching as an "average" size and shape.

Carrots can be harvested any time they are large enough to eat. They don't go through any sort of ripening process, but the longer you leave them, the larger they will be.

I got my first green egg! I THINK it was laid today and I'm pretty sure that Lily did it...I found it in the run when we got home after running errands this morning. I had to wash it in warm water since it was rather dirty. Do you think it's safe to keep and eat? I'm rather surprised that it was in the run since she's been checking out nest boxes for a while now.

Sure it is safe to eat, as long as it's not cracked and oozing (but you wouldn't even ask about those). Once an egg has been washed, it should be refrigerated to keep it safe.
