Trying to figure yearly cost of feed, but I do not buy the bulk of my feed, it is made up of things that we grow..
I keep a ton of each from barley, wheat and corn, how do I put a price on that when the market changes constantly.
I can estimate the grower pellets at about 50 pounds a week but other than that it is a guess.

Do I put a price on the weekly mealworm treats also

I got my first green egg! I THINK it was laid today and I'm pretty sure that Lily did it...I found it in the run when we got home after running errands this morning. I had to wash it in warm water since it was rather dirty. Do you think it's safe to keep and eat? I'm rather surprised that it was in the run since she's been checking out nest boxes for a while now.

Sure it is safe to eat, as long as it's not cracked and oozing (but you wouldn't even ask about those). Once an egg has been washed, it should be refrigerated to keep it safe.

Agreed, even my older birds will occasionally let one drop out in the run.

Thanks guys :) it's chilling in the fridge with the others.

I know most of you aren't anywhere near us but for anyone who is, The First Stop Shop in Altoona has cases of pink lady apples for $4.99. There were 78 good sized apples in the first case I opened and they're still crisp and delicious :)

Not often I actually make chicken comments, but...

I have one chick in a run full of various agreed birds. It hatched a week or two ago and I just leave it alone.
This morning as I feeding and watering, all the larger birds were in a circle around the bowl as usual. I was refilling water bowls and looked over and there was the little chick, standing in the middle of the bowl eating away while all the others continued eating! Wish I had had my camera!

I wish you had also! I just love seeing when a little one just plows right in and does it's own thing despite being the littlest one around!
