Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

17403, I have tried and get people that say they are going to come get it and don't show up. I think a lot of people are put of by the larger logs.
Too far for me, but hopefully you get someone to clean it up for you soon. I here you about the larger logs...we have gotten a lot of wood given to us for that reason, we are willing to cut it up, but a lot of folks don't have the chain saw to handle anything over about a 12 or 14 inch tree, or aren't physically able to pick up the larger rounds.

needed to share, just visited Hershey Gardens and saw that our very own Eweaber has metal sculptures featured there!! Soooo happy for him, and very impressed. (I sculpted the ornament in the last picture myself -well...I had a little help).

Thanks for passing on the great news about his sculpture, I always loved seeing his creations when he posted his pics on here.
And congrats on your 'creation' also! Very impressive work!

I am interested in the wood. How much is there and just how big are the logs?

I would say rough estimate 8-10 cords. Most of the are 16-18 inches in diameter and a couple feet long or smaller but there are one or two that are 2 or 3 feet in diameter and six to ten feet long. You could take whatever you want

This is a picture from google images.............of a wyandotte chickens single comb. My golden lace wyandotte has a nasty injury on her comb. I am not sure how it got injured........did she get caught up on some wire or netting? or did one of the other gals peck it bottom line is you see how the comb goes back toward a point...........well her comb now stands nearly straight up in the air since it has a cut on it its hardly attached. It had been bleeding but the bleeding has stopped . I just tried to wash it by dabbing with clean soap and water, dried it by dabbing then put on antibiotic ointment without the pain killer and dabbed some blue kote on it still sticks up alot so i tried to tape it down a bit but i doubt the paper thin first aide tape will stay on from the comb to feathers.........it does not have much to adhere to. my question is.........should I try to wrap it with gauze or something tomorrow I have her in a rabbit hutch for the night so that she can heal .......and that none of the gals peck at her in the morning any advice on this has anyone ever had to amputate a section of the comb? I am hoping by lining it up it might heal or in the worst case scenario.......as in frost bite the part would fall off if it does not heal. again.........please help with advice. other than the comb injury she seems fine. thanks so much from one mother hen to the rest of you all!
Just cut it off and put flour on it or the quick stop bleeding stuff for dogs nails is a powder as well. Then keep her in the hospital containment as you mention for 24hrs she will be fine after and the others won't pick on her wound you can add more powder the next day or so.

I am a ways away but if you are really worried about it I have piles of wood that I want gone(don't have a wood burning stove). It's your if you want to come get it. There are probably to cords split, another cord ready to split and probably another 4 or 5 cords still in large logs that would need cut down then split.

I think you are too far away. 5 hours in the car is killer on my husband to drive. Thank you so much for the offer. If you were closer, we would have jumped on the offer. We only heat our house with the wood stove. I hope someone will be able to pick it up from you!

thank you all for your responses to my post!

so what do you all think about trying to wrap this with gauze or something?   and how?

also i was reading last night that crazy glue might be helpful.........would you use this ?

thanks again

I would try super glue. I used it once to help a little guy who ended up with a hole in his crop. It was extremely intimidating. I had to keep applying it every couple days but that's because everytime he would eat, his food would push on it. He healed up well :) when he did finally make the trip top freezer camp, I checked his crop and there was no sign of the injury though there was a small scar on his skin where it had closed up. Good luck with your girl!

I've been wandering around the internet deciding what I want to add to my flock in the spring, especially since there's a little more room in the coop now.  So, best place to get awesome quality Blue Splash Marans chicks.  Suggestions?  Bonus points if they're in Pennsylvania.  Also, how do you prefer to grow your flock?  Raising chicks in the brooder and then introducing them, putting hatching eggs under a broody hen?

ETA: dheltzel, I remember that you do BBS copper marans, right?

I only have black and blue, but as SS mentioned, 2 blues make some splash. I find splash the least popular (and in my opinion, the least attractive) of the 3 BBS colors, so I don't setup breeding groups that produce splash.

I have a couple splash right now, but they are ee/oe.

This is an excellent suggestion. In the hair salon, we used nail glue (which is the same as super glue) all the time to seal a cut. (Ever try to cut wet hair with a bandaid flopping around? ;)). The chemical for the glue is cyanoacrylate, which is also the same as the 3M liquid stitches they use in hospitals.
