It's hard to see, but Mama hen hatched out 8 chicks. They are all somewhat black except for one gray (lavender perhaps!). They're so cute I'll be sad to see them go....

I've got a bunch of extras too. They make lousy meat birds too, since they have a Leghorn body type.

I also have extra Black Ameraucana chicks. Everyone wants blues and so I end up with extra blacks because blue does not breed true. They are straight run.
 
Got 2 more Welsh Harlequin ducklings this weekend (for 3 total). Now I get why people are so enamored with ducklings, they are the cutest little things. A co-worker asked Friday if I ever sell duck eggs to eat, I told him I was hoping to sometime. For now, I expect to try to hatch every duck eggs I get . . .

I would love to take some of the black Ameraucana chicks I would have to wait until next Wednesday or Tuesday until I see if they find my other silkies I am looking for.

It was tempting me yesterday. I seem to have four SPR and two of something else. Maybe JG mix? I remember by Jersey Giants being tinier than the other chicks until they reached maturity.
Anyway, I only "need" a trio. I'm not (I hope! Chicken math happens!) adding more birds for a while.
Unless I get a broody. Or a bird needs a home. Or it's a pretty bird. Or a cute chick. Or if... :th
 
Sheryl Crow had to be processed yesterday. She's always been my special girl, wanting to be first at everything. She became the odd chicken out about two months ago.
She began sleeping in the rafters a week ago.
Yesterday, she had a broken leg and torn comb. She was badly pecked. It just had to be done.
