Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

3 more goslings hatched this week. The former 2 are now over 6 weeks old and really like when I pull grass for them.
So far, my Pilgrim goose has laid 41 eggs this year, very good for a Pilgrim. 16 goslings have hatched, and only 2 males! Seems statistically improbable, so I am worried they are not "pure" Pilgrims. The genetics of autosexing in geese is not as well understood/documented as in chickens, but it is a fun topic to study.

Hey guys! I have a male pekin duck that is a one year old. I am located in NY. Unfortunately, I cannot keep him. All the sanctuaries I have contacted in NY and surrounding tristate areas say they are at max capacity. If you know anyone that is able to take him in please let me know! I have been trying to find him a new home for a couple of months now!

I don't have any good ideas for you. If you put him in a livestock auction, or offer him for free on Craigslist, someone will likely eat him. This is the same problem people have with roosters they got as chicks and are now attached to.

I discovered that… whatever the Delgrosso water park is called, was opening this past weekend. I said it in passing to the dd of the friend that just left my house a few days before. Several hours later, they arrived with a huge cage in the backseat, and their two guinea pigs. The humans left yesterday, but the gp are here. It’s been many years since I’ve been around guinea pigs, and only at a friend’s house. These two pigs educated me quickly on how not to trust owners about behavior. It’s easier to catch a chicken, I swear! They will be spending outside time in a prefab coop from now on. :th

LOL! At least they are cute?! We had a lovely guinea pig for about 5 years. She adored my husband and would lose her ever loving mind when he came in the house and she heard his voice. The rest of us were chopped liver. However, she could be bribed with yogurt bites. We've repurposed her cage into our brooder as it was a homemade solid bottom situation that was well over 4 feet long. We just added HWC for additional height and cat proofing. The cats never messed with the guinea, she'd hold her own with them.

The gp have heard my voice on FaceTime for a few months, and I got to know them over the weekend. I renamed them for my amusement. Fart Blossom was more timid, but after running around in the lilac bush for about an hour, I realized that she isn’t the shrinking violet I was told she was. I saw her searching out goodies, and heard her contented sounds. I was told she would literally curl up and die without the other gp. I finally grabbed her, and didn’t hold her properly for a minute as I emerged from the bush. It was akin to grabbing a chicken by the wing or tail. Imagine my surprise when she began calling out to me when she heard my voice last night. Now she’s eager for my attention each time I pass by. She is purring at me too. The other one is getting jealous.
