@Chad & Becky....I am a little nervous. I have Dr. Aliza coming over tomorrow to my house to do the blood draw/swabbing with me. Literally have butterflies in my stomach. How hard was it to learn the blood draw????

I'm sure you'll do fine!! Our inspector was really nice, laid back and made it easy to learn. Good luck!

I have a question and welcome all opinions. A friend wants one of the Orp roosters I brought home and is willing to swap some fertile Holland eggs for him. I Googled Hollands and realize there really aren't that many AT ALL. Given that they are so rare, I would really hate to try to incubate them and screw it up. If I found someone who does this a lot and would be willing to "foster" them into chicks for me, what are the conditions they need to be transported in? I would really love to help further this breed as our family always intended to focus on heritage anyway. Thoughts?

If you end up with an incubator for lots more eggs than you have, use 'sinkers' to regulate your temps. Have FUN with it.

We have 2 Barred Holland hens, they are the sweetest birds, almost to a fault (they get picked on by the other breeds) - GREAT broody hens.

Now you tell me! I could've put a lot LESS eggs in there and not had fiancee quite as worried about being overrun with chicks!

Oh please! Sinkers are a last resort. More eggs is the preferred method. I know you know that.

I was wondering about the eggs from her house to the incubator. I wasn't sure about keeping them especially warm or anything. Is there anyone in Western PA with room in their incubators? LOL. Or suggestions for a small-ish brand incubator? The Brinsea BYC is giving away looks pretty good for my needs.

I have to say I am in love with my mini brinsea advanced. So easy and great hatch rates. Of course it only fits 7 eggs, so remember that. That is/was enough for me, although I have to say I was envious of some of the NYD hatchers that got to put in a few dozen eggs. Time to save up for a little bit bigger brinsea!
