Sally,,, I candled, but you can't see much through these Marans eggs, I managed to save the other 2 cochins, and one of the marans, although by the time I tried saving the larger, darker egg, it was too late. Did and eggtopsy to see what the problem was, and found that the chick was absolutely huge and positioned incorrectly. It was facing the wrong direction and honestly can't imagine that it had any room to move around to pip it's way out. I removed it from the egg and couldn't believe how big it was, bummer since the egg was so dark and huge, definitely something I would have liked to have for breeding. At least there should be 3 blue cochins and one maran when it's all said and done.Quote:

interesting ropo!!That blood is probably not from fighting. Is the feeder metal? What is probably happening is that the combs are nice and warm. When they touch the frigid metal, they get stuck. Bird struggles and loses a bit of flesh. You can rub some olive oil or WD-40 on the metal feeder to prevent it from happening.
Okay-so I texted Sally in a panic-because we just lost power (as expected) due to the winds. So as soon as the power went out I looked at the hunk and said-oh crap! The babies! He says "what about them?" I said their incubator is on power-they are gonna die! So I panicky texted Sally-and remembered that darn car generator I have. Hunk said "ill bring the car around so you can put them in there". So I am sitting in my husbands car regulating temp in the front seat. LOL! I was telling Sally I swear I hear Phantom Peeping. LOL! I will say-its hard to regulate temp in the car. Mother Nature keeps trying my abilities. :-/ **** her!
..see-hunk loves my babies..he just text me and said power should be restored by 4:30. Thankfully he has almost a full tank!

I am currently dealing with a black maran chick dying.... DH said it will be gone in an hour its just laying there breathing hard at this point.... he wont put it out of misery and after I had to cull that nasty deformed chick the other day, I just dont want to do it again.... that chick seriously freaked me out, I cant believe it was alive for Gods sakes it was bad and NO WAY could it have lived. I still cant believe I did it and so spontanelously too....
