Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hi all,

I just want to let you know (several of you already do) that shortly, my husband and I will be moving back to Oklahoma. We do not know the exact day or month, but it will be fairly soon. The job we moved up for, the business owner decided to close the business due to health reasons.

We are moving back home! But I may be posting stuff that we have for sale (furniture and such). PLEASE, if you are friends with me, PLEASE do NOT post this on Facebook. We do not have the paperwork in hand yet, but will very soon.

We will miss you Chica.

I need to come up with a dedicated coop smock or jacket... I am usually using my old jeans jacket but hate to really 'take it out of service' because it is my go to jacket for chain saw work and log splitting because it holds up to the wear and tear so well.
The extra pocket idea is a good one, simple to add a pocket or two to a jacket.

Finding that forgotten egg in my pocket makes me smile.

I believe the thing that would help me most with my morning feed/water routine is a hook or plant hanger/bird feed holder where I could set things until I'm ready. I usually go out with my hands full carrying as much food and water rations as I am able (as I'm sure most of us do). The problem is when I set these things down to open a fence latch, that water spills out, OR Bella (LGD) eats the feed. Nope, she's not particular, LOVES chicken feed. Once I get IN the fence, same problem over again, just insert 'goat' where Bella's name is.

OK, added to chore list, take Bird Feeders down (they have been empty for years as per suggestions for better Poultry Biosecurity) and move to convenient locations near fence line.

Awww, Missy, sorry to hear that the Seminar was a bust. Things ARE going to get better. We are thinking of you.

I can't believe I was stuck INSIDE in Jersey all day yesterday with that beautiful weather. I am hoping it's nice out today, got LOTS on my to do list. First up, walk the property with my fluffy white friend, as it is Sunday, I will not have to worry about hunters. YAY!!

LOL Courtney wants your polish chicks. She went through my chicken magazine and she wants Polish to raise and inevitably show. Oh and on top of all my other fun things going on in life my 12 yr old wants to move in with me.

. And fyi..I think I'm doing pretty good writing.....the orange juice is fairly heavy tonight as there are no kids in house lol.
Congrats on your kiddo wanting to move in with you, proof that you're a great parent (or very lenient LOL)
I got the most awesome app for my ipad! It is a data base for livestock, check it out, iLivestockMgr.
Wonder if there's a matching app for the Kindle.

What hunting is still going on?? I live in the sticks with state game land all around....and haven't heard any hunting lately. Watching the Canadian Geese out my mom's sunroom window is NOT the same as watching my chickens and ducks....I wanna go home!!!! Gonna try and pretend this is just a normal Sunday that I decided to come visit the family......we'll see how long that lasts.

Ugh, brain is dead...looooooonnnggggg day.

Went to the chicken seminar this morning....and was bored out of my skull. Remind me not to attend a seminar given by someone who grew up on a commercial egg farm...so honestly believes that a. chickens belong inside the coop at all times and b. they should only be fed purina ever and no treats! That takes all the fun out of chickens.

Drove into NJ and spent several hours at my in-laws before taking the 2 hour drive down to my mom's.

Ugh, Ugh, and Ugh. I don't want to do this...can I just have a rewind???

As to the eggs in pockets...I need to remember to put them in my pockets AFTER I've changed water and feed...not before...cause I tend to put them in my jean pockets...and thankfully didn't the other day when I discovered the cannibalized egg!

RoPo....we're sorry that you're leaving..but after traversing your driveway...I don't blame you on wanting to move back!

Quote: You are so smart! In the summer, I have a plastic bench by the coop that I put stuff on. For the same reason as you (the spilling of water. Now the dog too) And once in the coop, I have to juggle to get the old feeders down, and the full ones up without spilling. Harder when a chicken decides to fly up onto the edge of the feeder WHILE you are holding it. A double shepherd's hook on the inside and out is a great idea! Now, what to do about the beginning of the morning. The dog chows down on the FF while I am trying to get my coat and boots on. Glad he is small. He can't eat that fast.
And IDK if I shared with you guys that a few weeks ago I was at the laundromat, and had to run to the washing machines to check my coat for the eggs I had forgotten in there that morning.

What is it that you like most? and is it easy to use?

It has a section for everything you can imagine. You put a picture in the chickens "file". I have been losing leg bands. If I had a pic, it will help me identify the chicken to put the leg band back on, or a different number. Without having to lift up all the hens skirts to figure out which one it was, if I didn't find the band. I has miscellaneous section to put notes in, about breeding, egg color, possible genetic fault, etc........................... It is hard to track this stuff on a regular spread sheet. I can also, some day get leg bands with UPCs on them, and scan them into the ipad, iphone. I have a lot of chickens right now. I want to be able to manage them appropriately. I need to track reasons for keeping, selling, culling, and such. It also hooks up to icloud. So I can use my phone down at the barn to get the picks, put in the leg band number and such, then up at the house it will be on the ipad. Its magic!!!!!

I also wanted to say about the app, that it is very easy to use. You have to create your own menus, and values for the data base. I can help anyone who doesn't get it, it took me a couple of hours to figure everything out, I don't like to read directions!!!!
